Did anything lead up to this like dumping the memory and defaults? It matters. Is the green led lit on the Osc board? Doug

I've only owned it about 30 hours now, I didn't dump the memory and defaults, but it sure does look like that's been done. It *looks* like the memory and defaults have been totally razed...

There are no signal entry lines anywhere except the number 1 line, when I finally got something to change trying a Signal Entry, I thought only the name had changed, but when I checked the "Static" settings, they were totally screwed from the null position I'd set everything to...I chose "Default" for the initial Signal Entry information that time...

Is the green led lit on the Osc board when you have a signal going?

Are you able to get a readable menu to check settings?

If yes check that the projector is in stand alone.

Turn all source lock settings to off. (info menu)

Turn direct entry access to off.

Make sure your storing the entry to RGB.

For now select 'last' instead of 'default' and let run for over 10 minutes.

Recheck the cables to make sure H is to H and V is to V.

Nothing will store if a signal entry is not made for the signal running.

Make sure your on the right input.

Keep a strong signal going while trouble shooting.

On the PGs it CAN be the deflection board. Never seen the HOT board do a 'no sync' issue on an XG, it's always been the system board. Oh, V rolling on an XG once was the osc board.

Doug, Marc and I need to get together one fine day, ignore all calls and emails and get this issue resolved..Wink

The fault my XG had when I got it was due to a bad osc board. It had a small, but annoying jitter and wouldn't sync to video, only higher scanrate signals.

Messing with it made it worse (caps and firmware) and I ended up with very bad H-sync and it was reporting the H-freq completely wrong.

Looked just like the dreaded scrambled mess, but through the jumble I could tell the pj was actually responding properly to all remote commands.

What about the setting: "Default Data Mode" ? It is currently set to "Default 1" and the only other option is "Default 6".

The OSC green LED is lit, pretty much immediately upon turn on, I am able to get readable menu's whenever it actually synch's, the projector is in "standalone", all source lock's are off, entry was attempted as "RGB".

Cabling is correct, verified, frequency reading listed by the projector is correct and matches the source.

Direct Memory Access had been "On", it is now "Off"

I only have one input, or do you mean push the "1" on the keypad to select the RGB input ?

Tried another signal entry, as soon as I got to the point where you have to choose the initial data, I tried "default", this resulted in losing the setup that was working, and it could be seen that all setup data was gone as there was no alignment or convergence of the image any more.

The image came somwhat into alignment several times, then back out of alignment, in and out, as if it was trying to synch. there was some message displayed whenever it wouldn't synch, but it was scrambled and couldn't be read.

To me, a non tech, it looks like there isn't anything for it to use as base data for the input....

Option / settings mode / default input select - select last then let sit for 10 minutes running

Check the info menu for source lock - set to off

Check adjust / option /default data/ at default data menu do they all say none or what?

Suggestion one: Done.

Suggestion two: Done.

Suggestion three: I have Adjust/Option/Setting Mode/Default Data Mode/1 Default as the present condition. If I check for options on the "Default Data Mode", the only other option there is 6 Default.

What does it say in the default data menu, none or what is listed in the kHz values to the right

Doing from memory but the default data menu is at the bottom of the options menu, should be #7

Wow, that time I tried to make a new entry, and it took it when I chose "Default" as the Initial Data.

All of the Alignment settings are zero'd, but not the "Convergence" settings, and the "Static" settings are way, way, way out, 98/100 on all colors, like someone was trying to screw it up, almost...

I don't know what you mean by "Default Data Menu" at the bottom of "Options" menu. The "Options" menu only has 6 entries, and I can't find a "Default Data Menu" anywhere. Perhaps one needs to be signed on with a password other than 315151 ?

Thanks for all the help...

3151 for yours. The version 3 uses 315151. XG1352 and 852.

Option menu still only has 6 entries and no "Default Data" entry. Backed out to User mode and signed on with 3151. I have a regular "User" password established too.

Have you tried changing the GAIN board.A lot of the sync processing is done on this board.

gregstv,
Early on when this problem came up I thought about that also. Its not ruled out thats for sure. In most of these when the issue was resolved it was using the same gain pwb so didnt look deeper into it. I also pointed this board out when sending into engineering but nothing specific came back on it. Its definitely on the things to take a look at. Good call btw. Doug

Yes I did try swapping the GAIN board since I had another on hand, it had no effect on the scrambled mess.

From a long experimentation session, I was able to determine that the scrambled mess problem was frequency block related. ALL signals in EVERY frequency range EXCEPT the third block would produce the scrambled mess, however, ANY frequency within the third frequency block would lock properly and allow a signal entry.

I hope this bit of information allows one of the real technicians out there to find the part that causes this problem.

If anyone has a System board for an XG, please let me know. Thanks.

That's interesting. You may be able to tweak the "usable" block to one you desire by adjusting the trimpot on the Oscillator board....kinda a one way trip, but the osc board can be calibrated again using a signal generator or PC, but I think you may need a frequency counter.

And you need to be specific about the system board. It's a 1350 right?

Correct, its a 1350, the system board is a PWC-4063 version 2R4 if anyone has one...
