Did you use both sources to playback DVD, or was it a DVD (momitsu) contest vs Blu-Ray (PS3) contest?

A G70 with a HDMi input AND a PS3 is an awesome combination. To make the combination really shine, the G70 should have new or at least mint tubes. Lightoutput drops considerably after after a couple of thousand hours resulting in a less punchy picture.
In order to get the most out your G70, the setup has to be done absolutely perfect, and a grayscale calibration is a must.

I have setup and ISF calibrated a G70 with (new tubes on B and G) Moome and a PS3 and BluRay playback is just stunning. The grain you see so much in modern films is very clear to see from 1.5 times screen distance. Scanlines at 1080p.

Modern digitals will always win in lightoutput in full white or very bright scenes. A CRT simply can't and never will output that much light at full white. CRT really shines with contrast and punch in less APL scenes and ofcourse perfect black and blacklevel detail.
You also have to remember that sharpness on digitals is a bit artificial as their pixels are perfectly square and have hard edges compared to the 'round' dots on a CRT.

And yes, the colors of a G70 are spot on, many digitals nowadays have oversaturated colors.

No CRT is ever going to be as sharp as the artificially sharp, pixelated image from a digital. The digital is even adding sharpness (square, hard-edged pixels) that isn't in the source. A CRT is never going to be as bright - especially an older machine with wear on the tubes.

Even 1080p digitals have pixels that are too large IMHO, if you set very close to your screen. Personally, I HATE the image that most digitals produce. I hate the pixels, pixel noise (mosquito noise - DLP), rainbow (DLP), screen door, funky skin-tones... the list goes on. I've seen a few digitals that impressed me, but we're talking about $60,000+ projector/lens/screen systems. I'm NOT that impressed with what I've seen from the latest crop of under-$5000 digitals - compared to a GOOD CRT display.

I wouldn't characterize the amount of difference in sharpness between component and HDMI as "A LOT". HDMI isn't going to make your mechanical or electronic focus better, it isn't going to improve astig, and it isn't going to improve setup. Are all of those things pretty well optimized?

Also, you don't necessarily need a $500 Moome card. A $150 HD Fury would likely accomplish the same thing in your system (depending on how you want to cable it up.) You could buy the PS3 and HD Fury, and try it. If after you add the new high quality source and HD Fury you're not getting what you want, you can look at the projector.

Either way, for $4000 USD, there are a lot of things I'd rather spend the money on than a digital projector that will be worth $500 in a few years.

Also, you should remove the ebay link and mention of the G70 being for sale - that's how Curt makes his living.

For those that gave me advice thank you very much , for those who accuse me of an add , seriously think about it , your all in another country and i dont post overseas and on another note , the price im asking is in no competition to Curts prices anyway as im way overpriced in comparison anyway .

I am very sorry but personally i run my own forum with not as many members as here but weve got over 500 people in it and i believe this was just handled wrong Curt and its 1 thing to delete the post ( fair enough ) but to be so proud of it ... come on mate , were all enthusiests here so i dont find the need to knock someone down and laugh, i mean no disprespect but if there was an issue i could have easily edited my post especially after ive been on your mailing list for oer a year and a half and have purchased from you in the past .

I added the ebay item number as i knew that due to the nature of my question condition of my CRT would have come up in terms of tubes and hours so my add goes into detail .

Anyway , its unfortunate that my first post makes me now look like an idiot but for those who ive somehow offended i sincerely appologise , for those who want to consider me a spammer think what you will , im just upset now that my name has brought bad reputation to the forum .

Sorry again .

Adam .
