Hi folks.

I know this has been discussed before but I couldn't find a consistant answer that I could understand. Sorry if I offend anyone.

I'm building my room and I need to know where to put the projector so that I can get the appropriate support built into the ceiling.

The projector is a Barco 1208s/e. The Lens program calculates a distance of 134.2". I will allow for some movement with the mounting but is that nominal distance what I should start with? I thought that there have been other recommendations of mounting it 5% or 7% closer than recommended.

I'm just looking for a suggested dimension..... I asked this on the AVS board and I got a couple of "hook it up and measuer it" type answers.... I prefer not to do that as I don't have a good way to do that as this thing weighs 180lbs and it's not easy for me to move it around with the room full of drywall and such.

Thanks. Bud

See the steps at the bottom of this page:

http://www.curtpalme.com/TubeCondition_PoorInstall.shtm

It's easy to move it around on the floor. You don't need to ceiling mount it. Just do it on the floor or on a moving cart to just get the right throw once and you're done.

Then use unitstrut or some other flexible mount method so that you can fine tune +/- 4 inches or more once it's on the ceiling: http://www.curtpalme.com/MountingMethods.shtm

These are the steps I took with all my CRT PJ's.

You may not want to hear it, but those other guys, and of course Kal, are right. Once you have centered and maximised your raster usage from the source you will be running, you need to turn it on and project to the screen or wall. Be sure to continue using your actual source, and keep the main focus nuts loose, so you can do a rough optical focus, as this will change the size of your projected image. Once your image is the correct size for your screen, making sure your have done a rough focus, then measure the distance. If you are shooting onto the wall, be sure to add the depth of your screen frame to the distance. And to be repetitive, use an adjustable mount like the uni-strut, and center the mount with the PJ for the measurement you took, giving yourself room to adjust. It is nearly impossible to get a spot on measurement, some freedom in the mount is crucial.

Thanks... I suppose there is no way around it... but being a newbie I get confused by some of the instructions which may seem simple to you experts but are not to me... unfortunately.

Plus, i have a 2 ft high stack of drywall blocking in the middle of the room and the projector is sitting 2" off of the floor on a furniture dolly. I guess I'm just going to have to wait until the drywall gets hung and therefore out of the way.

Thanks. Bud

Kal, I looked at what you sent and I should be able to follow that..... once I have a clear shot at the screen.

Thanks. Bud

Yup! Best to wait. No point in spending all that time to have a nice home theater but scrimp on the effort put into setting the projector up properly.
