Hi there,

I am thinking about buying an AA 1365 (resp. VGA2TV2WAY, according to the Video Processor Page over here identical).

Now I am wondering about how the scaler behaves if a user requests a change in the aspect ratio, e.g. wants to scale a 16:9 to a 4:3 format. From what I can guess there are only three possible ways of scaling. Isotropic scaling with overscan, isotropic scaling with underscan and anisotropic scaling.

I saw that some people over here have experience with the mentioned scaler and hopefully somebody can help me out with the information since I was not able to find the proper answer in the manual.

Best regards,
Hauke

It won't do aspect ratio conversion. HOWEVER... all cable/satellite boxes that I've seen will do that internally, ditto with DVD players.

Hi Curt,

Just to elaborate. My setup is like this. I own an HD Fury (HD via VGA). I have a Flat TV that does unfortunately not accept HD resolution but a maximum of 1024x768 via VGA D-15 input while the native panel resolution is 1366x768 pixels (16:9). My TV allows me now to choose for the VGA input between so called "Native" and "Fullscreen" modes. The latter one upscales the video signal anisotropically such that it fits the whole 16:9 display (no image information lost, well, besides the aspect ratio...).

So I was thinking about the following pipeline:

HD source (16:9 signal) -> HD Fury (unmodified 16:9 signal) -> AA 1365 (distorted 4:3 signal) -> TV (in "Fullscreen mode", undistorted 16:9 signal).

I know that this solution is not very nice but it might work if the AA 1365 would scale anisotropically, i.e. distort and not crop the image.
