You should be aware that you should NOT put Ultra-ready firmware into a non-Ultra chassis.
Version 5-something (maybe 5.4? TSE will know...) is the highest version that should be in a non Ultra model.

my mainboard supports it i think. At least it has the extra signals on the connectors.. don't know about the rest of my boards though.

How much do the U35 and U16 chips cost, and what is the contact info to purchase them ?? I don't need the latest firmware, just those chips with ver. 3.4 is fine...

Barry, you only have the Ultra upper and lower motherboard, the rest of your boards are non ultra.
Chris.

Sorry to raise this old chestnut.
Did this go any further? I'd be interested in getting the best firmware for a non-ultra, currently on 3.4 and would like to go higher (upgrading never stops!).

I have a set of spare Ultra chips off the CLM that I bought from VDC recently. Brand new, sealed. I don't see what advantages they have for anyone with a non Ultra, as you'll need to change the motherboard and focus board as well. I had a couple of sets of Ultra boards a couple of years ago, I sold them for $1000 for the set, including neck boards and VIM. I don't think they're quite worth that much any more, but I don't have stock at this point anyways.
Cheers!

Do the ultra chassis have other neckboards? What is the difference?

What Version Curt? I hear only up to Version 6 is really needed for HT, and after that you loose Acon, but who uses Acon anyhow?

This is not the case. One of VDC's technicians, in response to my inquiry, stated emphatically NOT to upgrade to V8.0. In addition to removing support for Electrohome ACON, contrast gain is affected, which has apparently caused noticeable problems. After hearing this, I'll leave my firmware alone until there's a specific, useful benefit to changing it.
VDC has excellent customer service and tech support staff who have answered every question I've asked.
thanks, Mark |
Marc,
I just upgraded to V8.0 and seeing your post about Contrast gain problems.
can you explain please how that problem manifests itself ?
to whom did you talk to at VDC?
Thanks
Michael
