Paypal can remove money directly from your account

Uhhh - no, it can't without your authorization. To do so without your authorization would be theft and Paypal would be in trouble.
as has already been pointed out, this is pure fantasy Wink

I usually use bank transfers for large overseas transactions. I don['t see how someone can take money OUT of your account, they can only transfer funds INTO the account. It's worked fine for me for years.

I wouldn't give my info to an Indonesian though, but Europe, no problems there.

Bank to bank wire transfer... the BEST way to accept money for anything over $1k IMO.
Once the money is in your account for 48 hours, nobody can remove it.

Give them your account number, routing number and country code and that is all they need. Verify this with your bank though.

I've accepted money from Hong Kong, Italy, England, Paris, etc. using bank to bank wire transfer. It is my #1 preferred method of accepting cash for services rendered or parts. The buyer pays something like $20 in fees. You probably pay about the same. Way cheaper than paypal. Just as quick (about five biz days is the longest I had to wait).

Do NOT use any other kind of wire transfer. Everything else is just a scam.

But then, I only give out the account number for an account that I rarely use and never keep much money in. Just to be on the safe side.

There is absolutely NO risk using wire transfer of money IN to your accounts.

Once the money is in, there is absolutey no way they can take the funds back without your express permission.

It will save you 3-4% on PayPal fees too, not to mention if he pays PayPal using his credit/debit card he can do a chargeback through his card issuer

Accepting wire transfer (even Western Union) is no problem for a seller, only for a buyer! (for the very reasons stated above)

Always make sure you can see the balance in your account - don't believe emails that might be sent to you from your bank, these can be "spoofed"

I paid for my projector with an international wire transfer, and I definitely would not do it again. It was a real PITA to set up on my end, took a week before I was able to execute the transfer, cost me a good a deal in fees (JP Morgan/Chase), then cost the seller a good deal more as he was given a bad exchange rate (CIBC).

Different banks may provide a better experience, but for the next transaction of this sort I would prefer to just FedEx a Postal Money Order.
