i'm getting realy tired of everything i want to watch being on blu-ray and not HD-DVD like i bought, but i know if i sell the HD-DVD then everything will be on HD-DVD and not Blu-ray so it looks like both are in my future, and therefore so is an hdmi switch.
i found this thread :
https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=6394.html
and a lot of people recommend the HDX-401 from monoprice. but with i type in hdx-401 in the monoprice.com site, i don't get a match. nor on ebay when i look for it there.
the closest i get is
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=2721&seq=1&format=2
but it's not autoswitch base on signal sense, it's a front panel/remote switch.
can someone aim me at the correct monoprice link for a hdx-401?
the octava kit mentioned in the thread looks good, and they seem to now have one the has digital follow (coax and toslink) which was desireed but not found back in august.
http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI%20switch%204port_toslink.htm
pretty slick, i wonder how it compares to the monoprice that i can't find. the octava is not only autosense but also discrete codes.
looks good to me,

What's with the equalizer? What is being equalized?

With today's learning remotes why does it need to be auto-sensing?

because the switch will be behind a speaker okay, i picked up an IR relay so that's mostly solved ...
mostly it's an add on, but i'm not sure that i can add YAD (yet another device) to my harmony. i already have
lights
pre/pro
CD
HDDVD
LD
VCR
composite/Svid switch
scaler
projector
TV
screen
i think that 11 is the limit, dunno what i'll do if i hit the limit...

Enough said, having to program and use a harmony is enough to drive you to want to commit murder. I now totally understand your desire for auto switching.

Home theater master MX-700,or MX-800 should be good for something like 20 devices, single button multidevice operation and a patch cord that allows you to set-up and store a back up on your computer.

True. I'm looking forward to some day having good remotes at reasonable prices. Right now, the MX-950 and above are pretty much the only remotes that can almost do everything they need to. When you go down below that to a lower MX you either are lucky and have no TOAD devices that you must toggle or you have to live with a less than elegant implementation. With Harmony, you can handle the TOAD, but have a whole host of other issue.
What I want is an MX-950 like remote for $100. What I really want is the stuff that should be coming out that detects the current draw from a device to know if it is on and communicates that info to the remote.

FYI.
I do not think that the autosensing switches are a good choice as some components ( For me its the DISH 722, but most any DVR will be the same. ) are always on, and unless you are going to cut power to them, will make using a autosensing switch difficult.

And then you could pick up some used Crestron equipment and run a small country from the comfort of your favorite theater seat
