|
|
Hi, I was just speaking with Curt and the question is whether the VPF40 (originally built by Vidikron) will scan over standard video rates and therefore can take a line-doubler. When I purchased the unit in late 1993 they wanted to sell me a Faroudja so I had assumed it would, but Curt is not sure. Anyone know? Thank you.

Just a followup with my conversation with John, my specs on the main site show all the Vidikron made chassis as being composite 15.75 Khz only, but if John was offered a Faroudja doubler by the dealer, it seems like my spec sheet is wrong.
Anyone know for sure?

Not sure how reliable it is, but the Videogon Blue Book shows a bunch of different revisions of 'VPF-40':
| Code: | Model
VPF-40 proj, 240in, 650 lumens 1991
VPF-40s proj, remote 1992
VPF-40hd proj, 180in, hdtv, 700 lumens 1992
VPF-40gl proj, 180in, 650 lumens 1993
VPF-40 Pinifarina proj, 180in 1993
VPF-40hdx proj, 300in, hdtv, 700 lumens 1998 |

As I remember, yours is the odd ball of the bunch. Most of the vpf 40's were based upon the E-home ECP chassis and would take more than just line doubling but that one, as I recall does just video only.

Seems like it would be impossible to tell based only on the case. In a craigslist listing I saw for a VPF-40hd, it was in a Ferrari red Pinifarina case. It does look like an ECP.

That is a ECP version. I know cause I've seen one up close. If he has what I think he has, the red part looks the same but there's no lower black part like you see here. Not only can it not do above straight video but you'll never find parts for it unless you find a whole other projector for parts.

IT is indeed a Vidikron made unit, it just doesn't make sense that the Canadian distributor and the dealer tried to upsell him into a Faroudja doubler at the time if the set couldn't do it.

You are correct in your description.
The red (nice) pininfarina is the model "shoulda" bought new.
Nice colour.
