well in a nut-shell no, by simply having a single chip produce the entire image and shoot it through a sinlgle lens alone will make the DLP shaprest of them all, even LCD. however, there are half a dozen other things that DLP will suck at, so to take into consideration Sharpness by itself would be very short-sighted. Not to mention that any Infocus product should never be considered for purchase by anyone with a brain. Wink

Depends on a bunch of things.

One big thing that makes digitals so sharp is, they have very high acutance or edge contrast. This is because they have pixels with well defined edges with gray borders. Digitals can make a not so sharp image look sharper then it should for this reason. Some of us find a digital image looks unnatural. CRT's have no defined pixel, they depend on focus of the scan line and the ability to turn on and off the scan line to produce a edge. The better CRT's can produce a very focused scan line and can turn and off the scan line to produce good edge contrast. No where near what a digital does, but that can be a good thing, as a lot of people like the smoother image that is produced.

I looked at those images and they did not look all that good to me. Sure they were sharp, with the one native looking unnaturally sharp, but I do not know if the guy could of picked better subjects. Take a look at some of MP's shots, they blow those away.

It's damn near impossible to judge a copy of a copy of a.....but I just didn't see any 3-D goodness in any of those shots. Could be the photographer using the wrong lens, exposure or whathaveyou, or it could have just been the way the original scenes were captured; I dunno. The CR was OK I guess but again, too many variables to say if it's my monitor (uncalibrated Dell POS) or the actual in person image.

Not bad overall tho. (To me)

What I can definitely say I had a problem with is the grammar and spelling of the ad. Shocked Shocked That was painful to read.
I think for $5K I can have one of everything from our partner vendors on the site, AND a pro ISF for my lowly 8500, with a little cash left over to build a Kal Brewery, and still beat the snot outta that thing.. with exception of light output. Kleig lights ARE bright ya know. Wink

It might be disleckcia. I catch myself wording things in a weird way sometimes. "Is it possible to get a CRT this sharp?" Using pretty much the same words, the question sounds better this way.

Like you said Greg, image depth was not there. The one picture of the native looked like someone had gone wild with EE.

Sharpness is good till it starts to distract from the image or it starts to take your attention off the movie. Movies are shot in a certain way to give a feel or atmosphere that carries the theme of the story. HD and all the added resolution/sharpness is all the rage right now, but I can see where they will back off of it in certain circumstances.

The way I describe LCD and Plasma images and to a lesser degree DLP is that they look electronic, not film like. A few years ago I was in a Good Guys store looking at top of the line rear projection sets. I thought the Sonys were terrific. Then I spotted a Mitsubishi rear projected CRT set and was blown away. The water looked WET and FLUID and continuous. The blacks were REAL. The Sony looked like someone had washed the face and left soap film grey on it. The LCDs and plasmas all were HARD sharp, but like electronics images and unnatural after reveiwing...and the screen door effect was horrific.

I didn't buy the Mitsubishi because the cabinet was butt ugly but I went away wondering if anyone made CRT PJs for front projection....and look at me now! After all these years I still look at the image and just am astonished how good it is. With the help of others here like Ile, it will be even better soon. And so bloody cheap too!
