Why when I play a purchased DVD via component on my HD DVD player why does it down sample to 480p. Now when I make a 1:1 copy of the same disc why does it UPSAMPLE to 1080i.
I know that the HD Fury would be the solution, and I have one, but i am having issues with my DLP projector.

The DVD consortium made a rule for all player manufacturers that won't allow any higher resolution over the analog component outputs for fear of copying. Now, when you make a 1:1 copy your program that does the copying strips the copy protection and doesn't put it back on your copied disk. Therefore your player doens't see a copy protected disk and allows upsampling to 1080i over componenet.
I had the same problem on my HTPC with an ATi card. I run it into my rear projection TV at 1080i over component. I would try to play a DVD on MY tv wity MY PC and it wouldn't let me. SO I use to have to rip them to the hard drive before I could play them. Now I use AnyDVD and it allows playback in real time. No riping or copying required. IT was utterly rediculous that I had to rip a movie that I legally purchases just so I could watch it on my TV. Stupid studios.
