I understand the runco dtv991 is a nec xg75. will this do 1080p if so how well. also anyone know the throw distance for a 90" wide 16:9 screen. curt says he recommends a shorter distance than nec, which in my theater would be good.

Curts right, be more aggressive than the NEC guidelines.
The XG will do 1080p and resolve it BUT with a heck of a lot of work, good tubes, and you will need a HTPC or External scaler you can control timings etc.
A few of us have done it in the past, but the gains are not really worth the effort. If you want that 1080p feel, I'd suggest 1080i@72HZ, from experience you can't tell the difference even close up, and it's a heck of a lot easier
