Yeah, that's a difficult situation for sure, to maintain harmony. Typically, someone here will jump in and tell you to "grow a pair", but it's not always that simple.
However, on the flip side, I do have a question. How many here have ever told the wife "No way in hell can she..." and lived to tell the tale?

Well I'll keep an eye out for a good deal on a replacement HVPS. I'm just not interested in spending much money right now and I don't see many available at the moment.

There simply aren't many out there. If you're lucky, you'll find one on eBay soon, maybe at $150ish, but people even grab them as spares, as it's hte one part in the Marquee that is usually a throwaway. If you want cheap, get the older 34Kv supply from an 8000 projector. I've seen those on eBay once in a blue moon for $100 with no bids.
I regularly get $350 for the 34.9Kv ones in the 8110/8500/9500. Can't seem to keep them in stock either.

BEn's HVPs for $275. seems pretty reasonable to me. Otherwise just get a 1080PO LCD, they seem to be around $2700. for an Epson ro something in that price range.

Kidding, Ben, sell it to Captn if you can come to an agreement. I've got a couple in stock right now, with more coming in.

Mine is working (having had a two month hiatus from CRT while Moome repaired my Ext-HD box); Cptn needs the HVPS. My point was that I am skating on thin ice - if anything breaks its not going to get fixed unless it is relatively inexpensive. I was looking though and the panasonic ae3000 1080P LCD looked pretty good

When your wife is the one holding the purse strings, what is considered "affordable" becomes extremely variable.

Sent Ben a PM about the HVPS. Maybe he can help me with convergence and color calibration if he has time.
I never did post a picture of how the rooms turned out. I made a table to go over the projector and hide it when not in use.
Seen here moved so that I could pull apart the projector.
The left entertainment unit holds a computer (we mostly play video over the home network), tuner box, and DVD player. This room gets used pretty frequently for Rifftrax.
Thankfully nobody in the house is an audiophile so we didn't have to spend much on sound.

Sort of like Captan says. I would probably get it fixed for a small amout, maybe several hundred. But she ruled out having a big parts machine sitting around - she considers I'm a pack rat and doesn't want me having a spare projector hanging around. Given that, and the halos, if something goes that's not easy to fix I'm springing for a medium quality digital and she would prefer that anyway. Its not really a money thing. See the room - she doesn't like the projector in the middle of the "guest bedroom/theater room." In the meantime my Marquee is fulfilling the role I envisioned when I got it to replace my XGA LCD projector; biding time with a great picture while the prices come down on the higher quality digitals.

No need for a big parts machine to even make it into the house. Tear the sucker down in the garage and box the parts. Then toss/recycle the metal chassis and such. Then you're left with a box O' stuff about 2'x2'x3'. Maybe a little bigger if you do as you should and wrap the tubes in bubble wrap. <shrug>
I invited my wife to stay the hell out of my sh*t years ago and she was kind enough to take me up on the offer.

To be honest, If I had mine on the floor I would hate it too . Why don't you ceiling mount that sucker and make everybody's life easier .It only takes a few hours and factory celing mounting brackets have been cheap and plentiful lately. Your room could look liek this and be this functional too.
