I still have my 1252Q and it's doing well but at 480. Is it worth upgrading to FullHD 1.3 HDMI card to watch Blu Ray- can the 1252Q even handle 72mhz/1080p?
I've had no problems with my old projector but it's time to get some HD going.

That's because you've never seen 1080i on it.

1080i HD on your projector will look phenominal. I owned a Barco 800 for 5 years that is almost identical in performance to your Sony 1252 and HD looks night and day different. The only downside is that after you've been watching HD for a while you'll think that SD (480i) looks like crap.
You don't need 72Hz/1080p either. Run it at 1080i instead. It's 1920x1080 resolution just like 1080p, only difference is that the screen is refreshed 30 times/second instead of 60. But since film and videos are shot at only 24 and 30 frames/second you're already equal to or above the refresh rate you need. I'm simplifying things a bit (there are pluses and minuses in the 1080i vs 1080p debate but that's the gist of it).
72 vs 60 hz is overblown in my mind. I ran my old Barco at 72Hz and since going with Blu-ray I'm "only" at 60Hz now. The judder is subtle. Very subtle. Not worth it IMHO since it would cost you a fortune to turn 1080i/24 into 1080i/72 (very expensive scaler)..
So long story short. You don't want 1080p/72 for a Sony 1252. You want to run a very simple 1080i/60. All you need to do is:
Source devices (Blu-ray player / HDTV box) -> HDMI cables -> IFB-FULLHD card in the projector.
That's it.

Yup.

Update on my defective IFB-FULLHD input board : received another board from Moome, mounted on my G90 and all is OK now.
It took time (4 months) but now the card is working as expected.
Thanks moome for the exchange. I'm shipping back to you the defective board.

I have been looking at the IFB-FULLHD with quite some interest but I am not sure if its the right investment for me. So here are my questions.
I own a Sony VPH-D50Q projector. Its stated max resolution is 1280x1024@60Hz.
1- How will the IFB-FULLHD unit handle a 1080p@60Hz signal? What would be the resolution that I would actually get?
2- Does anyone have a 50Q using the IFB? Whats your opnion on the HD signals being displayed?
3- Is it appropriate to spend $400 on such an old unit?
I will appreciate any comments on this.
Thanks

One quick question: Is there any advantage to the IFB over the EXT verson besides cosmetic. I'm sure this has been covered but where?

Yes, the dedicated cards use higher end parts.
Taken from the order pages:
Dedicated cards:
EXT-FULLHD:
Look at the right side of the pictures. 14->12 bit vs 12-> 10 bit HDMI receiver, 12 bit vs 10 bit DAC, 1500Mhz vs 1000Mhz video amp. There are other differences too.
There's a reason why the card versions cost more than the external EXT-FULLHD box version that also have a power supply and case... the parts are considerably higher end/more expensive.

Thanks for the clarification Kal. I've been scannning the threads but didn't see the comparisons explicitly pointed out. I ordered the IFB version tonight.
Jimmy
Update 5/22: The IFB card arrived today. 4 days from Taiwan. That is fast. Thanks.
Update 5/23: You know I didn't really expect to see much improvement from my first gen HDFury. Amazing improvement. I still need to re-calibrate gray scale and adjust gamma though.

the IFB can handle 1080P, but for D50, the better performance will be 1080I or 720P

sure! it is the high performance card special for SONY projector only~
I will appreciate any comments on this.

What would be the horizontal res? 1280?

Well I guess my question really is if I am going to be so far away from 1920x1080p, am I better off selling the projector and buying something more modest but up-to-date..
I have no doubts that the IFB is a no-brainer decision for owners of G90 but I am not convinced yet for a D50
any thoughts?
Thanks |

The D50 is best at 1080i, that's still 1920x1080 but at 30Hz instead of 1080p's 60Hz.
720p is 1280x720 at 60Hz it can do it but it looks soft ( at least it does on mine )
A Sony G70 with the Moome card would be a huge step up. No comparison.

Hello,
do i understand it correctly, that my Sony VPH-1272 upgraded with a IFB-FullHD card will be enabled to
display 720p or 1080i in full width?
I tried feeding analog YUV HD into my IFB-12 but the picture was too narrow. When i first read about
a HDMI IFB card some years ago, that problem was still there. The actual IFB-FullHD has it fixed?
Greets from germany,
Beetle, a happy VPH-1272 user since 2004
