FWIW those EHT retention clips are very common on european TV sets. I use a pair of sharp edged sidecutters in the gap between the holder and the socket to gently squeeze the two plastic clips. Then by carefully rocking the cutters the clip comes out easily.

I personally dont like just changing the glychol. I have tried the method of cleaning by filling partially with amonia and shaking but have never been satisified with those results either, so I usually disassemble and clean manually. Although your tube is different then the one I recently did, removing the bolts with the springs should disassemble it to where you can thoroughly clean it. Even though there are springs on those bolts they are dead stop so you dont have to worry about adjustment. Also there is a gasket there and useing it over sometimes works but in reality should be changed, however I dont always change them either if they look good. Probably would have a hard time finding a replacement except through Magnavox or a supplier of them.Good Luck!!!!

Quick question - it brings this thread off topic but I didn't want to hijack that other guy's RPTV thread...

What would cause sloppy convergence around the edges in an RPTV? I did the centre and then the multipoint convergence adjustment on my parents' Toshiba... and whilst the centre is dead on, the corners are slightly blurred. Even though the crosses are spot-on, I still notice colour separation, similar to the attached graphic. Red = slight misconvergence/defocus, yellow = barely noticeable, green = ok.

Could the edge-defocusing be the first sign of aging glycol? The picture has become red-biased, but NOthing like my grandma's was. The odd thing is.. I'll do the multipoint, and the crosses are RIGHT on top of each other, with no colour bleeding on the edges.

In the multipoint menu it has the numbers, 1-9, around the edges, you know? Well, the number is overlaid on a white box. Even after adjusting that point dead-on, when you exit back to the 1-9 screen, the white is misconverged. I'll have to take a pic and show you.

The maggie has died.

Turned it on yesterday after it sat for over a month powered off but plugged in. Gram had been watching another TV with reliable sound. The tubes glow and you hear the 16khz... but no video. You hit AV input and it goes into protect mode. They don't want to fix it, and are going to put it out on the kerb in the next day or so and get gram a new TV. I'm going to pull the tubes and mirror. Maybe I'll have something to play with. That'll leave those copper scrounging bastards nothing to take. I'll practice separating the tube and lens assembly, and changing "glycol."
