I thought I remember reading something a couple of years back about how to modify balanced cable to accept an unbalanced signal. When I say 'balanced cable' I mean a cable designed to be used with balanced processor and amplifier. Something about terminating one of the cable's conductors to ground.
Anyone done this? Anyone know what the hazards might be (to the amp or processor) when feeding an unbalanced signal from the processor to a balanced amplifier?

The connection has 3 wires +,-,ground. From what I have seen,you cross the negative with the ground. If you don't cross them the amp will only put out half of its power.

Connect the negative with the ground, and use that as the ground/common connection.
