No BD for $99 |
Dude if WalMart had BD for <$100 I'd have slept with my pillow propped against their front doors. Then I'd have the 'best' of both worlds (sorta....I would really like to replace the XBox 360 HD drive with a standalone tho).
I was told yesterday at Hollywood Video that they're going to support BD in-store just as BlockBuster already has. There's no up or down to this madness. "They" have us running around like idjits that's for sure. It should reach a boiling point sometime before we get to the nationwide HD conversion in early '09.

That's a hell of a deal. I keep trying to convince myself I need to go buy one of these, but I just don't need it. My HD-A1 works just fine.

Greg, they are $100 in the Madison area. Maybe some Walmarts didn't get the memo that they can't sell them for that cheap? Or maybe it varies by area within the state? Have you called all the Walmarts in a 60 mile radius?

That's strange. It's supposed to be a state wide restriction.
No I haven't called around. With gas at $3.00 gal I might as well just look at one on ebay. The more I think tho the more I might just wait to see what happens closer to Christmas. I think the Sony camp is going to retaliate with their own killer sale. Seeing as I have the 360 HDVD, and although it lacks the finesse and functions of a standalone player, if the price was right I'd like to add a BD to round out the system. No matter which one I got I'd still end up shopping for a good HDMI receiver before I could get the full functionality and connectivity out of them.
Decision decisions.
I appreciate the thought and time you've put into this tho. Very kind of you.

^5 Phil!!!
I agree - and our A1's have 5.1 audio outputs!
But if you don't already have one, it's a cheap way to get your foot in the door. Like me, everyone who finally bit the bullet and bought one has said "Wow, it really IS better."
