|
|
I have been watching a movie the other night when my G90 unexpectedly shut down. First, I though it overheated or something. I waited a couple of minutes and tuned it off. Got a warming screen with some green and pink lines, so I turned it off. Next day I tried it again, got the warming screen just fine (no lines), but could not control anything with the remote control. Was pressing "menu" - no reaction.
Today, it would not even come up. I cannot get it out from standby mode. When I turn the power switch off and on, I get 88 in RED and then in orange (which is normal from what I understand), but then it either stays in 88 orange or switches to 30 in green or 11 in green.
Any ideas?
Anyone in NJ area who may help?
Thank you in advance
Roman

connections.
Protector (orange): The power turns off and the projector is set to the
standby condition. Remove the cause of the trouble and press the ON
key on the remote commander to restore the power.
Error (red): The power turns off and the projector cannot receive any
command from the remote commander. Remove the cause of the
trouble and press the MAIN POWER switch on the projector to restore
the power.
Notes
• When an error code lights up, the previous adjustment data may be
cleared.
• The code disappears when the MAIN POWER switch is turned off.
• The code lights up every time the power is turned on until the operational
trouble is returned to normal.
• Immediately after the MAIN POWER switch is turned on, “88” is
displayed in red, then in orange, for about two seconds. This is not a
problem. The unit initializes the CPUs during this period
I can't see an 11 or 30. Let me see if I can find some more information

Nope I can't find those codes you've given. Probably because they are green .. the service manual is a bit cryptic "the power remains" lol
One option you might have is Curt - he has a parts G90 arriving and should be able to help you out if you need any parts or repairs.

I know another G90 owner who is getting "green" codes that are not listed.
The bad news is it's down. The good news is, it can most definitely be fixed. The bad news with that though, is it might cost you.
If my G90's failed right now though, I would pay it.
It's worth it.

Yes,
I read the manual, and I did not see the codes I am getting there. That is why I posted and asked.
Good thing to know that curt will have parts, but I need to know which part I need first
And I would rather have someone replace the part...

If you talk to Curt, he might be able to help you fix it on the phone or at least identify which board is the problem
Good luck

SWEET!
Let me look up the other codes, I believe there are more of them. It might be Friday before I return to this thread though.

Tried it again today, and as soon as I turn the Power switch on, I see 88 changes to 88 and then right away to 30. I tried two times - same thing. It would not get out od the standby mode, nor it would react to any RC commands.

NVM is non volatile memory - so my guess is your DALLAS SRAM chip is dead
From memory - there are three memory areas, user - service and factory.
They can still be bought for around $50 US (from memory)
Although don't take my word for this, Curt /Terry are the best two to talk about this with

I wish that is the only expense I would have to go through.
Will I loose all conversion settings?
I was told that if I send the board to SONY, they can fix it, but it will be reset to the factory settings, and I basically would need to do everything from scratch.

I found this .. it might be relevant to you. There may be a way of formatting the NVM user area using a backup. I just don't know enough about the G90, but here is some information that seems similar to what you're experiencing.
I'll try to find the segment about restoring the NVM user area. I'm sure there would be a way - probably involves holding down some buttons at power on - I just don't know which buttons or even if that is the way.
No matter what, you will lose whatever data is contained in the "user" area. I'm not clear on what is held in that area but its probably to do with your own preferences/settings. Sorry
Initialization ends after about 11 minutes.
® If Green : 30 (Lit) lights up on the 7-segment
LED of the YB board without going off, it means
that the software is requesting initialization of the
user SRAM. Press S202 for about 5 seconds in
the Green : 30 (lit) state, and the 7-segment LED
should change as follows.
Green :30®31 (Approx. 0.1 seconds) ® Off
End of intialization
* Take note that initializing the user SRAM
erases all user data.
5. Turn on the power and check operations

It might be an idea to change that chip.

I think I've found it - if I am correct, it is IC333
You should get someone to replace that for you anyway - as this chip is notorius for failing after 5-9 years. Alot of manufacturers work on the fact that alot of companies change their equipment every 3-4 years.... they hadn't counted on us using our boat anchors this late into the 21st century!!!
To reset it, try doing the sequence above: S202 for 5 seconds - that MIGHT fix the problem, but regardless, change the IC333 ASAP. Curt could do it while standing on his head, blowing his socks off.

Does this mean that I will need to have the PJ re-converged and recalibrated again?

Where exactly do I need to press S202?
Will changing the Dallas chip require PJ to be re-converged and recalibrated again?
Anyone here who actually did that?
I took the board out and saw the DALLAS chip. I plugged it back in – same thing 80 red, 80 orange, 30 green – no boot
Excuse my ignorance, but what is IC333? Is that the Dallas chip?
Thanks
Roman

IC333 : User data save .. Dallas Chip
All user settings will be gone. That means you will probably need to get your machine re-calibrated - some settings are held in the factory and service area - the rest in the user area.
The good news is that the YA board can be sent to Curt and he could replace it for you rather than the whole projector.
I'm sorry I can't offer any mroe help, I only just got my G90s this month and haven't really learnt much about them.

I think I've found an equivelant chip that should work - these are meant to have a 10 year lifespan. They are relatively expensive.
http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/38032.pdf
If anyone here can take a look and confirm, I'm just guessing.
I'm going to have a look on Mouser as well.
