I always wanted one of those 13 gain screens from the old sony's of the 1979-80's vintage. I get that with a 9" projector would look wild.

No - what you need is one of those screens with that dude's 6000 lumen Hughes-JVC ILA monstrosity. Apparently he was getting something like 90ftl on a 96" screen... Shocked

I can't believe I missed this thread, and I have never been happy with my painted screen either. I have had a Draper 1.3 Onyx fixed Aluminum frame waiting for a year now to go up but It might just get sold. Yesterday I visited a local guy who bought a re-built 85800 from me about a year ago. Originally when he bought the machine he was projecting on a wall he had painted with a white paint, some kind of "special mix" with Silver and Blue? I commented that the picture looked dull and dim and also since he had Contrast at 70 that his tubes would wear quickly.
Well yesterday I saw something which really blew me away and that was Blue Ray at 720P on the Da-lite High power . The thing that blew me away was the Peak White, It had so much output I felt like I was watching an LCD and this was with Contrast at 45! I have never thought my CRT was dim and even last night on my painted 1.0 gain I had to squint during the outdoor Bahama's scene in Casino Royale. However my Contrast is at 60 and I would love to drop it down and gain light output as well. I am seriously considering this to replace my current set-up and IMO would be very good investment for about $400.
The color shift issue to me is minimal and all my seating is within the 30 degree cone screen spec. I did notice a warmer presentation to the right and cooler to the left but as Zebu pointed out it's uniform, no Patriotic striping left to right. I can't wait, this is my next project.Thumbs Up
