|
|
What can cause a G70 to lose the hour count, I checked my G70 yesterday and it had 4 hours on it. A few days ago it had about 700; not that I'm complaining or anything about having a *very* low hour G70.
Any Idea's,
Erik
BTW- this happened right after I started to play with Vista on the HTPC

Zebu - playing with Vista and the hours reet will be a total co-incidence.
My guess is the whatever was holding the hours has lost power. The G90 uses SRAM (a type of non-volatile memory) for storing settings . I don't know if the hour count is recorded on that chip or if the G70 uses SRAM too but it could be that if it does, the DALLAS chip has reset itself. There may be many other mechanisms for storing the hour count - but the bottom line is that most of these mechanisms have finitie lifespans and are subject to "electronic entropy"
(I'll be keeping an eye out for low hour G70s that look worn out for their age
Good luck

Does anybody know whether the G70's have the same or a similar DALLAS chip to what's in the G90's - that will be dead soon? If so, can anybody confirm whether or not leaving the projector plugged in will or will not do anything to prolong the life of the chip (Cliffy says to leave the G90 plugged in at all times)? Does plugging in the LVPS actually apply power to the chip such that there's no draw on the old lithium battery to keep the SRAM alive?
Thanks,
SC

I'm not sure about leaving it plugged in all the time,
The most suprising part was that it didn't wipe out any of the other settings just hours, possibly I just found the secret code while I was playing in the service menu
