I just upgraded to the latest firmware v1.93 and now I have no BluRay playback??? marquee won't sync. Is anyone using this version with the Moome card and not having this problem? Also if you have not downloaded this yet you may want to hold off Sad

Thanks for the input. I can't figure out why all of the sudden after the download my marquee won't sync on ONLY with blue ray. It can't find the sync... "sync?" is what is displayed.

Could it be you have 1080p24 enabled?

Check the Blu Ray playback section and turn this from automatic to off and see if that helps.

Thanks. The BD now works but I still can't enable 1080P, 1080I works just fine. Any other ideas?

Not to highjack the thread, but for those of you that have

PS3 => HDMI => Moome device => PJ
@1080P

Can you tell us what the exact setting are on the PS3 and what refresh rates you are getting (1080p/24/30/48/60/72)?
I am getting a EXT-HD from the second batch and am very curious about what to expect from my PS3.

Settings > Display Settings > Video Output Settings > Select the connector type on your TV
HDMI
Component / D-Terminal *2
Composite / S Video *3
AV MULTI / SCART *4

Settings > Display Settings > Video Output Settings > Select all resolutions supported by your TV
Standard (NTSC)
480p
720p
1080i
1080p

Settings > Display Settings > Video Output Settings > Select the TV type
16:9
4:3

Settings > BD / DVD Settings > BD / DVD Video Output Format (HDMI)
Automatic
RGB
Y Pb / Cb Pr / Cr

Settings > BD / DVD Settings > BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI)
Automatic
Off
On

With what ever combination of settings you have, what refresh rate is it outputting. Obvious 1080p/24 is too slow for most CRT projectors so are you getting 1080p/60?

Thanks

Correct. 1080p/60 is the only option that is viable for CRT projector owners. 1080p/24 is too low unless you pass it through a video processor of some sort first.

1080p at 30, 48, 72, or other non-standard refresh rates are not available on the PS3 (as of today). Haven't heard any rumours about them being added in the future either. Everything is 60Hz unless you set the 24fps option to "on".

Given that the PS3 is a full-fledged computer, there's no reason why any combo of resolution/refresh rate couldn't be possible. Sony would really make my day if they offered 48 and 72!

Yeah 1080p/48 would be great, I thought I read some where that 1080p/72 was to high for HDMI

Curious if anyone else is getting any problems lately with the PS3 and the Moome card. From what was said here on the thread that the PS3 is limited to a 60hz refresh rate. What about stand alone players like the Samsung 1400 or the new Panasonic A50 coming out.

On a side note. Does it matter weither to get the 40gb or the 80gb version of the PS3 for playing back Blue-ray movies?

40 and 80 are the same, no effect on bluray or anything else, just storage size

They are all limited to either 24Hz or 60Hz. I've yet to hear any HD DVD or Blu-ray player (other than one done through HTPC) that can support custom refresh rates.

You need to read our newsletters!

Last week we had a Q&A with the following question:

Q: I want to add Blu-ray to my home theater setup and everyone seems to say that the PlayStation 3 (PS3) seems to be the best way to go. Is this true? Why? For home theater use, is there any difference between the various PS3 models that I should know about? It seems the only difference is hard drive size. I'm willing to spend more money on a larger hard drive but I'm not sure I need it.

The only constraint I've seen mentioned with the PS3 player concerns the latest HD audio formats. Of the four "advanced" audio formats - DD+, True HD, DTS-HD HR, and DTS-HD MA, some BD players will only decode some or all of the formats (decode means to split into a MPCM stream for your receiver / pre-amp), while some will bitstream some or all of the formats (which allows the receiver / pre-amp to decode). A few players will do both (most of the announced / upcoming BD players will do both).

Currently the PS3 only decodes DD+ and True HD (into 5.1 or 7.1 MPCM), and I think it's been announced it will decode DTS-HD MA sometime in the future. The PS3 does not bitstream any of the advanced audio formats. Much discussion has happened about whether the PS3 will ever be able to bitstream the DTS lossless formats (DTS-HD HR, DTS-HD MA), since supposedly there are hardware bandwidth limitations in the i/c's used for the HDMI audio outputting.

If you're just needing traditional 5.1 or 7.1 audio streams (over HDMI or Toslink or coaxial), then it's not an issue.

Or if your receiver only supports HDMI 1.1 / MPCM (the lossless bitstreams require the bandwidth of 1.3), then it's also not an issue.

Or if your receiver doesn't support decoding of any of the four audio formats above, it's also not an issue.

So for many, many people, the great price (and top of the line video output quality) of the PS3 works for them.
