|
|
Hi,
I have just purchased a EH 9500LC to replace my Barco 1208/2.
I have a 2.35:1 ratio screen which is 157.48 W x 70.86 H Inches (4M x 1.8M)
The room is completely light controlled (e.g you can't see you hand in front of your face when the lights are off)
I am driving the 9500LC at 1920 x 817 resolution.
I don't seam to be able to get the 9500LC to reduce its height enough for my screen size. I have been told that the 9500LC has had the 16:9 modification done already.
Would I be able to get more height adjustment if I were to replace the three resistors used in the 16:9 mod with resistors of a higher value?
i.e Replace R704, R804 and R904 (56K ohm resistors) with a value of say 70K ohm?
Any thoughts?
Regards
Daniel Parker

No idea, but I would surely like to see some pics of that 4 meter setup

Hello
The 56k mod should work if you are the right distance from the screen, using H Size of 90 or more. Make sure the left and right blanking are not clipping your image source.

The 56k mod isn't enough for 2.35 sized raster. You will need to adjust the value. I can't remember if it's up or down, but starting with the 70k should be easy enough to try.
Go to the AVS archives and click on the 2.35 forum and the only two threads in there are mine, for setting up my 9000LC with 2.35. Lots of good info in there.

What gain is your screen though, and what lens are you using?
You will need huge gain to make up for that wide of a screen. And GT26 or straight HD10 lens to achieve proper corner focus and optimum center focus.

Wow...another one goes for the 2.35:1 fiasco...
That's SUCH a waste of valuable phosphor area!
And...I'm not sure what your source is, but the only two aspect ratios that are actually broadcast or used on
any disk or tape-based media source are 16:9 and 4:3. There's really no advantage to setting up for a 2.35:1
aspect ratio when it only exists as a consequence of adding letterbox bars to a 16:9 or 4:3 image, and in either
case, you get geometric distortion if you do it that way.
I suppose that you can get a 2.35:1 aspect ratio if you're using an HTPC with the right software, but again..what's the point?
It's the most NON-versatile setup I could imagine, and the one that's most wasteful of valuable CRT phosphor area,
with attending reductions in available resolution and light output.
Sorry, I'll never understand why anyone would want to set up a CRT projector for that ratio. It doesn't make any
sense.

I will take another look at this.. It didn't look like I could do it in my tests earlier in the week.

Useful info.. It looks like you reduced the resistance, but I will have to pull the board out and take a look.
I don't know my screen gain.. It is a microperf, and the image has been bright enough with my Barco 1208..
Current lenses are unfortunately HD10L's, which I will have to replace. I have only had the 9500LC for 4 days, and hacent yet mounted it on the roof.

My screen size is very much fixed.. I will post some pictures later tonight. It is built into the wall, with my speakers behind it.
Being 4M wide, when I play 185:1 material, my picture is still very large, even when windowboxed. I understand that I will not be using all of the phosphor area, but no matter what I do, I will not be doing so with a 235:1 screen.
If I didn't crush my vertical height, but instead just blanked a 16:9 image to 235:1, the area used would be identical. As I have been running my Barco like this, Im just trying to replicate this functionality with the 9500LC.
I use a HTPC for everything, and the image comes out great, and looking correct for all ratios I throw at it.
So, with the fact that I do have a 235:1 screen that I can't / won't change, is there a better way I should be doing this?

Please don't forget the 9000 boards are different from the 9500 boards. They are wired slightly different for the anamorphic mod!

OK.. This is the first time I have posted Pics of my home theater..
This is my fixed 2.35:1 screen.. Below it you can see my two subs.. Behind the screen is 3 x 15" main speakers..
The little square you can see in the top purple area of the screen is my IR Repeater. The poster on the right is of Van Helsing, and I can remove a slider to expose natural outside light to backlight the poster. This room is still a mess, and needs me to do some cleaning.. i.e the arcade machine on the left shouldn't be there.
Room size is 5 meters wide by 10 meters long. It is three meters high in the middle, and 2.7 meters high on the outside.
This is looking back from my screen, towards my (non existent) bar. Only things of interest in ths shot is my Barco 1208 on the roof, and my EH 9500LC on the table. Rear speakers are mounted in the angle of the ceiling .

Looks like that will be a nice room, what gain and material are you using for the screen?
