Hello everyone.
I posted a question on AVS ( selfish stack project) but didn't get much interest exept from Cliff and Curt, so I will try here. I really need advice on this.
If you compare one 1209 and one 1209S both equiped with perfect LUGS and table mounted (easy on keystone, geometry), what will be the difference in PQ?
Thx a lot
Romain

I would say the 1209s would be better because of newer technology in the updated boards.

1209 don't have sheimpflug adjustment.
Gamma, noise and sharpness would be better in s. I think s have also more geometry adjustments, like seagul and separate left keystone etc...

Something to think about, because you are thinking about stacking them:
If you have two different 1209 models (one "s" and one non-"s"), and one of them quits due to a hardware malfunction, how are you going to troubleshoot the set? If you have two projectors that are the same, it's a simple case of swapping boards from one projector to another. Not much is interchangeable between a plain 1209 and a 1209s.
Maybe some time in the future, you'll find a high hour 1209s with shot tubes, but otherwise perfectly working. You decide to use this 1209s as a parts machine. If you went the 1209-1209s route, then you could repair only one of them - the 1209s.
The 1209 is possibly less sharp across the screen because it lacks the scheimpflug adjustment. The Scheimpflug nuts are built into the tube hardware - but these are inaccessible in a 1209.
You cannot insert P19LUG tubes into a 1209 without some modifications to the neck boards. Apart from that, the mounting hardware of the 1209 is different too. With new factory P19LUGs from Barco, you could order the LUGs with mounting adapters (to fit them to older chassis). Do you have those adapters?
Just a few points that crossed my mind...

It would be fair to say that a 1209 gives at least 90% performance of a 909 at 1/3 the price

Are you the alter ego of Greg Eisemann?

If I were, I would be saying the 909 gives at least 180% the performance of a 1209 unless it has the 7 board mod set, in which case this amount is reduced to 10%
Seriously though - Greg's mods do work and are pretty good too - he's just not very good at quantifying just how good.
I very much respect MP's view on this - he wont give specific numbers - he just says 'a significant improvement'. I think Greg should adopt a similar attitude.

I really prefer the 's' series. For the casual observer, it's not a big difference. For the CRT heads like me, it's a huge difference.

Thanks for bursting my bubble Kal!
3 years ago I got into this with a Runco 933 and thought "what could EVER be better than this?"
Then I got a Barco 1208 and did the HD-144 conversion and then I KNEW "what could EVER be better than this?"....the Barco
Then I got my recent 1209 and changed out the C-elements to colored.....WOW "Nothing could be better than this!" no more image ghosting from air reflective couplings!
Now, just as I reach, Colored C-Element, 9"inch, Liquid coupled nirvana......you have to tell me the summit is another mile higher!
So how do I mod my 1209 to get 1209s performance?................................................sigh!
