Posted: Thu Sep 06, 2007 12:26 am    Post subject: Vision 1 Vidikron

Hi guys, has anyone got a Vidikron Vision 1? What's the difference between it and the 9500LC? (its not an Ultra is it?)
What is the main difference between the Ultra and the straight 9500LC? All I can find is some information about geometry changes

Kind regards

Hello

Depending on year built, they are both 9500s and 9500 Ultras, both LC. The Ultra was introduced in 1998 and has the additional geometry and anti-banding circuitry.

I spoke to Curt about becoming his Australian agent Smile

Actually, this one was a surprise. The person who I just bought the G90 off - I told him how I had been ripped off 3200 by the last seller on Videogon. Imagine my surprise when he told me he had a Vision 1, factory refurbished .. still in its wrapping that I could have for free - as long as I paid for the shipping.. My jaw hit the floor.

In my books, this guy has made a friend here in Australia. Smile

A Vision 1 is a straight run Marquee 9500LC or Ultra with NO internal component or circuit differences. Same beast, different skin.

There is a difference in what the unit is identified as in the menus as well. From firmware version 4 (and maybe earlier) you can
change the model number IF you know the ultra secret service password. Vision 1, 2, or 3? Or TAW? It's all in there....

But otherwise...same beast.

As such, they're as moddable as any other Marquee but start out better looking.

No, I asked. He paid full price for the G90 AND the Vision 1, so I'm guessing he's financially secure. I'm still shocked at his generosity. He's got a big heart, that's for sure. I'm going to suprise him back and send him some really really good Australian wine, hand picked. Then every year I'll send him another crate Smile Hell, its the least I could do. Plus, if he comes over here for a visit I'll put his family up in my house.

Smile

What are you going to do with it ? Sell it , considering you already have a G90 .

I'm going to experiment with trying to blend different brands of projector! Smile

He didn't say what he was replacing them with Gino, but I will find out. Probably 3 chip DLP Razz

Frankly this G90 mania that people seem to have lately is a bit disturbing.

There are people on this forum now who could, if they chose to make it happen, arrange to do a shoot-out between a pristine G90
(which most likely IS the best CRT projector made "as delivered" from the factory) and a modded-to-the-hilt Marquee 9500LC Ultra,
with the latest MP mods, FrankenYoke Mark IIs, and the other "best of category" upgrades.

I personally would tend to believe that the modded Marquee would actually throw the better picture.

My justification for that would be based in part on the fact that the Marquee has the most direct video path of any PJ on the market,
while the G90's video path is, by comparison, an outright maze of circuits. And I don't believe that you preserve detail by running
it through many circuits.

Keep the Marquee chassis. It has enormous potential that can be realized, for some money, of course. And when you're done
with those mods, you've still got a very supportable projector chassis with virtually unlimited parts availability. And the G90
will still have "almost none" in the way of available spare parts.

I also agree with you CJ. Why else would I still be investing so much money into my setup? I'd say my Ultra's are as good as they get. Brand new LUGs, HFQ900 lenses, latest MP mods, 03 VIMs, Frankenyoke MkII's, belden cables, 10bit moome HDMI cards etc. etc.. not to mention my sources.

It's almost like the G90 is the CRT's 'digital' compaired to the 9500 Ultra's.....easy to setup right out of the box, just plug and play, and with the avaliability of spares...throw it away when in breaks.... Very Happy

Where-as the 9500 are a tweekers delight (nightmare), but more like a 'rice boys' turbo, pretty 'ordinary' from the dealership but with the right information, enough money and the right bits, blood-sweat-screwdrivers....a real goer

...a little better than factory G90 maybe....but....who's kungfoo is best.....

You've just got to decide for yourself if you want to go the "I can easily get the parts and mod it to the hilt to make it one of the best in the world" approach with a Marquee, or you can go with the "It's a top notch machine right out of the box but I hope it doesn't break 'cause then I'll be hosed" G90.

They both have their points, to be sure.

I WOULD like to see just such a shootout someday...say Gino's setup compared to Art's. That'd be fun.

Heck, I'm still more than happy with the performance of my own 9500LC. Tubes have under 300 hours on them, and Gen II
MP mods, and FrankenYoke Mark IIs. It's not bad...but I do need to upgrade to an HDMI input board. The Moome DVI input is
nice enough, I suppose, but HDMI is a must have upgrade for me in the near future. (When I get my Blu-Ray player...soon.)

You just can't imagine the seething hatred I have for you Mr. Green . I hope I don't explode and go on a shooting rampage or something similar. You can prevent this ......

Art is out of the CRT game.
The G90 & 909 crowd will call fowl that so many mods have been made (especially over the yoke mod!) but that is precisely why I picked the Marquee Chassis.

The parts & more importantly the talented people working on mods forced my hand.
