After a series of trials and errors. I have actually traced my error to the HDM, not the focus bd as I had originally thought. Initially I heard snapping/arcing. I thought it was from the blue tube because it only occured when there was power to that tube. I thought it might be in the magnetics. In fact I was already to order a deflection yoke etc from Curt.
This morning I turned off the lights and powered up only the blue tube. The arcing as it turns out is happening on the HDM . Is that a defect in the HDM, or is something else causing it? Or, is it as simple as replacing the HDM.
Anybody have HDM part no. 50-2003-07P?
Thanks,
Willie

Hello
Unplug the blue anode line from the hv splitter and try again; it could be the blue tube is leaking high voltage from the rubber cup on the tube bell and it is travelling up the HDM yoke wires. An HDM by itself rarely or never arcs in itself. The open tap on the splitter is a shock hazard at 34000 volts so if on the ceiling, let it hang down from the chassis 5-6 inches. If on the floor, pad under the splitter with several layers of bubble wrap. Get away when powering up.
