I got my $85 6 PG Extra yesterday and it looks to be in pretty good shape. Tubes are all in the 7/8+ range and it is cosmetically really good except for a crack in the G lens plastic edge.

Power it on, and it starts up and runs for anywhere from a minute to about 5 minutes, then shuts down and throws two errors - unless I am reading the LEDs totally wrong, they look like "FE" and "30." Neither of these are listed in the error codes.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!
Will

Will,
The FE if it is a FE is a Video Decoder PWB not installed. It shouldnt power down with this but the 30 error Im wondering about.

Look at the very rear of the projector inside under the metal cover, if the outside board is installed remove it then retest. Doug

Your not trying to input a component signal are you? Are you sure its not E0 instead of 30? E0 is a fan has stopped.

Thanks Doug,

I'll take a look when I get back home. Would the fan stop error power it down? Boy, if that's it that's a nice easy fix!

Will

Will,
Yes it would. The fans have a 'sense' wire that checks if its running, if not then will power down with E0. Good luck, check the bottom fans first then the very back corner fan. The corner fan gets the most abuse. Doug

Hey Doug, thanks. I was indeed reading it upside down. It is an E0 error so I will have a look at the fans. Any recommendations for replacements or will a standard 5V computer fan with sense wire do the trick? The F0 is due to the unit not having the point convergence board.

Thanks again,
Will

Use the orig fans. No time to be experimenting. This may just be something blocking a fan blade. Follow each lead back to the connector if all are not turning. I think I have all of them from a parts chassis but you may not need one and is something simple. Curt would most likely have these also.

F0 or FE? Doug

Smile Sorry, too many hex codes for me! (EDIT!) FE.

Thanks Doug. I'll tear it down tomorrow hopefully and I will PM you if there's a dead one. Do you have any idea what the RPM needs to be to keep from throwing the error -- or would that not happen -- would the fan need to be completely stopped?

Thanks again.
Will

Well sho 'nuff - a single screw (from somewhere) was stuck in the right bottom fan. I wiggled it out, gave the fan a little spin and voila! It's been running for about an hour now and the E0 is gone.

Thanks so much Doug!
Will

Are you still getting the FE error or is that cleared? Doug

FE error is still present but RGBHV signal looks OK so far. I am about to make my PC control cable and will be able to tell a lot more once I get it a little set up at least.

Is this other error anything to worry about?

I don't think so but check if you have the video decoder and remove it for a test. I have heard of it before but doesn't seem to harm anything. Nothing on it from warranty repairs when video was used alot. Doug
