The first charity event is being organized for September or October. It's for Connecticut Public Broadcasting. I don't want to scare you, but they're bringing in a national celeb, and you'll need to add a couple of zeros to the ticket price.
The Curt Palme event is a MUCH better deal! |
Is the event going to be live on PBS Arnold? I don't know how PBS works in that regard. If so would I need to live around there to see it or do you think it might be national at some point?
Also, was a No Stink adhesive used to stick down the 5 acres of carpeting?
Yup. Looking great!

No, it will be a "private" event, with the top donors getting a "meet and greet" photo op session. The general tickets will get a Q & A session with the celeb, etc. Any time an event is aired, the celeb costs skyrocket.

I'm not sure, but the only thing you can smell is the carpet itself. It was not a double glue installation - normal padding and tackless strip was used. The one thing that I did notice was either the velvet fabric or padding from the seats which had a much stronger smell. I have set the DDC to bring in a maximum amount of outside air to get rid of it. Is there a term for this, "new seat smell"???

For the visual effect I say Avatar. Something to show off both the picture and sound, King Kong.

Avatar, Dark Knight, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Coraline, Ratatouille, A Bug's Life.
Those all look and sound excellent.

I am not sure what your tastes are,but as this is no average theater I would start with a classic like Seven Samurai or Shindlers list.
...or Lawrence of Arabia, or Snow White and the seven dwarfs... or something to really show off the sound system.. one of the Star Wars movies or the Lord of the rings series.
or something visual like Pans Labyrinth or romantic like The Piano or Amile
do you have a genre you really enjoy or memory of an influential film?
How about some Fifth Element screen shots with you standing in the corner? that seems to be a right of passage around here.

I did a quick Goggle on the house. I figured it would be large but according to the posts on the web the theater is part of a 50,000 + sq. ft house I have done some work in a 20,000 sq ft. home and a local billioniares 15,000 sq ft. house but 50,000 ? I hope the hallways are wide enough to accomodate Segways. What is interesting, if the cost reports are near correct on the web (and who knows if they are) the cost for this house is less than the billionaires 15,000 sq. ft. house and Arnold's home is way cooler.

To this day, the movie that got me hooked on CRT front projection is still one of my favorites, Top Gun. Both audio and visual are top notch. And you can't get into to much trouble with it in a large room of people.

I’ve been watching this come together for a long time, impressed by each and every step. But I have to tell you, when I saw the photo with the seats finally in place, the hair on the back of my neck literally stood up. Such an amazing feat, Arnold. Congrats.
If I recall correctly, it was a screening of the film GANDHI many years ago that was a defining movie-going moment. While GANDHI might not be what some consider “demo material,” there might be a certain poetry to christening this theater with the same film.
But frankly, in a theater this wonderful, I think you could screen SHOWGIRLS and have a religious experience.

Two hours after I rolled off of a "red-eye" flight from Nevada, Leo Bassett arrived to start up the projector. Due to a mixup, Leo had only a set of 3:1 lenses with him, and not the 1.5:1 lens set needed to fill the screen. All was not lost, however, as the 3:1 lenses are needed anyway for initial alignment, as the edges of the raster needs to be visible on the screen. Leo will be back this weekend with the other lenses to finish the setup. On Sunday John F. Allen will setup the Dolby "B" chain, equalize the theater, and set all audio levels.
Without the shading and gamma curve even complete, the picture quality was absolutely stunning. It met or exceeded everything I had hoped for. I can best describe the picture as being totally devoid of any digital artifacts or noise, with all the contrast I would ever want. The look is more like film than video. Of course, at 14' wide or so, the image was at 40+ lamberts - so bright that the auto-setup camera system could not cope with the brightness. The cooling system (which was an earlier worry) passed with flying colors. The room did not vary by more than 1 degree (!) from a cold projector to four hours of lamp operation. I can't wait to see the whole screen filled next weekend.
Attached are a few pictures of the initial setup by Leo.
