With the completion of the ceiling painting, the scaffolding has been taken down to allow the side walls to be primed and decoratively painted.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. I bet you crack a cheshire cat smile every time you walk into that room.

I've got to tell you, you are SO right! All day I've been finding excuses to keep going back for another look. When I walked into that room this morning (after over a year of it being divided by the scaffolding), it really was a mind blowing experience for me. Despite having worked on every detail, to actually see it "in the flesh" was beyond words. There is still so much to do, but the end is in sight. The projector gets delivered Monday, although the booth is not finished yet, and even if it were, the projection port is the only way to get the screen and frame into the theater due to their 18' or so long cartons. The speakers should be put in place next week, and with that will be the mad scramble to get them temporarily hooked up for an informal "smoke" test. I promised the workmen a SACD demo as the first order of business.
My wife just shakes her head every time I talk about "the project", but this is truly a dream come true for me. Quite a leap from being the founding member of my elementary school's A/V club in the late 1950's! (RCA war-surplus 16mm projectors)

So when will we be reading about your installation in CE Pro or some other such publication? It looks great though, it's really taking shape!

Wow, I missed the last pair of photos... The deck of scaffolding is gone! Whoo hoo!
OK, the room is looking even more awesome than I was picturing it.... What a "grand" space. The scale just couldn't be appreciated with the scaffolding.
Very, very cool. I can't wait to see the equipment start coming in.
Thanks for the updates!

WOW!! I have a huge grin just thinking this is in a residence!
Arnold, all of the photos and descriptions did not prepare me for the impact of those pictures. I think every one of the members here have a favorite memory of a theater experience and when we build it is a chance to get close to that ideal. Some of us excel in the quality of image or sound and build rooms that are beautiful and functional but this outstrips everything I have ever seen. truly awesome!
Do you have remote operating capability from within the theater? a Bluray player and "all in one" remote next to your favorite seat?
I would like to hear more about your choices of automation and video/audio sources to the projector, I guess that is no surprise on this forum full of tech/geeks.

I am sure that there is a direct correlation to the size and features of the theater to the size and features of the master bedroom closet.

I hope I'm not getting to personal but I have read most of this thread and can't find the actual dimensions of this room mentioned. From the pictures and comments I've been guessing 35ft wide 65ft length 28ft height...?
Or my whole house could fit inside of it.
I don't want to seem jealous, or envious, those words do not apply. I lack the words to convey my feelings...
Your building a fantastic home and the fact that you know and understand the project makes me feel giddy with joy for you. Seeing someone having this type of home who has been involved in it, not just yeah I've got the cash, you build it then I'll just have you show me how to use it without regard for the work... it's refreshing.
I've never seen anyone take so much time to share this kind of experience with others of the same mind set.
Enjoy your new home you deserve it

Lesson #1: If a famous theater designer offers you a 15% discount on all theater components if you purchase through his company, RUN IMMEDIATELY.
The last two months were a machine gun of "ball drops" that when added to the previous tally, resulted in the theater project being at least four months behind schedule. The theater represents only 5% of the total house construction, yet it produced 95% of the screw-ups, waste, delays, etc. About a month ago I decided enough is enough, and I took over the project myself. That's when I found out that my "15% discount" ending up costing me 34% more than if I bought everything myself!!!
Needless to say, after taking over the project things are once again coordinated and marching towards completion. Instead of installers showing up and finding out that critical items were never ordered, those items are now awaiting the installers in every case.
Now the March, 2010 pictures:

GREAT SWINGING MONKEYS!!!!! That's just insanely stunning! Wow isn't very cerebral of me but WOW!!!
And WTF is with your project foreman??? Is he nuts?! A job such as yours would be a corporate resume unto itself. A dozen doughnuts says he still includes your project in his 'accomplishments'.
Simply amazing. Get this...I had to run and get the wife to show her...she usually acts like I'm asking her to watch how the laundry goes 'round in the dryer just 'so' when I call her to "look at this theater" but even she was speechless.
Her first utterances were totally stupid, considering she knows what I earn!..."Don't even think about it!" If I could afford something like that and it wasn't her money...I think I'd have it if I wanted it regardless of how chilly the bedroom got.
Looking good man!
