|
|
I have a Crystalio 2 scaler that has the ability to output 2 sim feeds that are identical
If I fed these both into say.. 2 G90s or .. 2 1209s - I wonder what the image would be like on a 120' screen.
Would I be better blending or stacking them?
Obviously I would need to use a different box if I was to blend - but my theory is a stacked set of PJs should produce a brighter image than a blended set..
So, has anyone done this?

Hello
Regardless of using one projector or two sidestacked, your 16:9 sources will only employ 75% of the available phosphor height on each picture tube. Worse still, 2.35 movies will employ 56% of the phosphor height. Edge blending is less tedious in terms of setup and maintenance alignments, and would deliver a sharper image if done well.

Thanks Tim. This is true - and definately advantage - but as I have the problem with a single projector running 16:9 not using 100% phosphor height, its no biggie to me.
Thing is, I don't want to spend 17k on a Blendzilla - despite the fact that its an absolutely wonderful, world class product.

And you don't have to. Check out TVONE's C2-260 PC video board, which includes edge blending. Lists for ~$1,000 and can be found for ~$776. You'll need two.

That's a great little device.
I want to be able to still have my VP in the chain. I think the C2 can process 2 ports at the same time and assign discrete inputs to discrete output ports, I'll look into it.
The idea of projecting two 4:3 images to provide a great big enormous gigantic 16:9 image is .. becoming more appealing

It is to me also, even though I really don't have room for it. One thing - you'll be getting more like a gigantic 2.40 image.

Moose, I'm getting tingles just thinking about it... feelings my ex-wife could never muster in me...
That card is actually a pretty good scaler/processor all by itself. It does 4:4:4 sampling ..
The only problem. it doesn't do HDMI - although I guess I could get 2 more HDFurys

No, it doesn't do HDMI. What I would do is look into an RGB Distribution Amplifier with a couple of outputs after your HDFury. TVONE sells one pretty cheap.

I wish. Then I'd have one of those TVONE 7200's in my home as a "demo". I'm trying to find out what the C2-260 system requirements are, other than two open slots. So far TVONE has not answered this question. And I'd wish they'd post a manual.

Isnt it true any more that the Crystalio 2 cannot pass through multichannel PCM through HDMI (hardware limitation according to pixelmagic representative).
How do you live with that significant shortcoming? Or was there a board revision that has now fixed that? If so, how would one know which model is up for sale when the mode numbers haven't changed?

What's this got to do with the thread subject?
Besides, its no limitation. Just route through your AVR first. You may not get the audio delay feature, but I've never needed to use it.

I was just wondering what you are doing with your audio, since audio is an integral part of the home theater experience. That's all it had to do with this thread. You have obviously found a working solution for your HT.
And the reason I was asking is that I know 3 people who sold their C2 (3800 model) for this very reason. Back then it also had the issue of not being able to do IVTC on 1080i60 sources, but that has now been fixed.

Sorry kschmit, I didn't mean to be rude - my post came out wrong - I was trying to be matter-of-fact but when I just re-read I may have come out a bit hard, my apologies
Yes, it was an issue until people worked out they could route through their AVR first. As for 1080i60, yes I believe an earlier firmware revision fixed it - PMS are quite active with their firmware revisions - and they actually listen to the wishlist and implement the changes that C2 owners want. Overall I'm very impressed with the C2, especially with the improvement of SD to 1080p.
Kind regards
