First of all a few questions...

IVTC is in this dscaler decoder...is it not in the latest Nvidia driver as well? I just bought an Nvidia 8500Gt and thought I had read that it handled IVTC.

2nd, ivtc is all about 3:2 pulldown, right? Why would I care about that if I'm running 48/72 or 96 Hz? Wouldn't the requirement then be 2:2 pulldown?

Now for zoomplayer....I have dscaler in there, I have reclock as a renderer and I believe dscaler audio decoders...but when I play a movie, it blank screens for a few seconds at a time, or the video completely freezes, any idea what this could be?

Also, what's a splitter? And why MUST I have one installed??

which reclock version is best?

Ben

ATI's and Nvidia's IVTC does not even come close in perfomance (=reliability) to what the Dscaler IVTC mod does.

The answer to your second question should be here: http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=70932#70932
Essentially the IVTC process reconstructs the original progressive sequence. Any subsequent processing of that sequence that is required to output it at your prefered resolution and refresh rate will typically be performed by your video card. The last couple of generations of video cards from both Nvidia and ATI have been virtually perfect in that regard. I.e. they will do perfect 2-2 pulldown or whatever other mode is required prior to output.

A splitter is a directshow filter that takes the output of a source filter (a program stream or transport stream in many cases) and splits it into audio and video elementary streams to pass them on to the respective audio and video decoders.

so, if I don't have a splitter, does that mean .ts files won't play???

not if your player uses an integrated basic splitter that supports TS files.

Btw, just install Haali Media Splitter and you'll have a splitter if you need one:

I don't use ZP, so I don't know how to exactly set it up in there. There is a section for source filters and one for splitters in ZP though.

You use Media Player Classic?? Does that also allow you to use reclock?? I think reclock is a must....but maybe I'm wrong.

Also, are you ATI or Nvidia?

ok...I got it workin, and all I can say is WOW! The picture is a full step up...a FULL step!

It's hard to explain, but it's definitely much better....more solid and detailed.

Now, a few more questions....

I got it all working with the exception of Reclock...it just screws everything up when I use it. Is there a particular version which works best?

I wouldn't even bother, but I see the odd microstutter...and I mean micro! I'm not sure most would notice, but I definitely do. Certain pans aren't as smooth as they should be and I think reclock could put the finishing touch on what is a great picture from htpc!

Will Blu-Ray look as good as this if I get a drive for my PC? I would guess that perhaps it won't as it can't use the dscaler decoder, is that correct?? If not, is there a suitable solution for Blu-Ray and HTPC???

Thanks for the help thus far...it has really been worth it!

What refresh rate are you running? 48hz I think.

For reclock to work it needs to be a multiple of 23.97. The icon should be green, although it will blink red/green for 1-10 mins as it locks in. You need to have the dscaler IVTC working properly for reclock to report 23.97 as the source rate.

-----------------
Haali needs to have "This filter is also a splitter" ticked in the source file setting in Zoomplayer. V5 will do that automatically I think.

And read this

My last refresh rate that I used was 47.952...

it's beyond that I think...when I try to use it, I get an error message about pins being impoperly connected. And the kicked is that playback is far worse when it's enabled. I was wondering if my version was wrong or something...

Thanks for the help....I'm almost there, and it will be worthwhile.

Mark, do you watch HD-DVD or Blu-RAY on your PC?? Are you able to get as good of a pic as this?

HD-DVD and Bluray look way better than 1080i TS files. And yes I can play them both...in a umm, unorthodox method.

Reclock version should be 1.7 beta 2 or something.
