No one told me when I bought this thing I would have to clean it! DAMN THEM! Then again I should have figured the operating instructions I got from the Meth head I bought it from for 45 bucks probably wasn't the best source of info. He told me all I had to do was point and shoot.

I unplug my projector when I'm not using it.
Friggin Psychopathic gun nuts. Nobody needs or should have a gun. What are you so afraid of that you need a gun??? Lunatics.
Just stay on your side of the world, and I'll stay here, where I will never see a gun. Hate to be a girl scout selling cookies where you lot live. Knock, Knock, Bang...Oops...Girl Scout...well, she could have been a crack addled house invader.
Something is sick in your society if you need a gun.

You are SOOOO right there is something sick with our society and the worlds' society as well.
Seems like even down under y'all have some of the sickness.

There are some real effed up people breathing the same air as the rest of us.
And for the record, I have never mistakenly killed a girl scout for ringing my doorbell, But I have gutted a man who attacked me with a knife in my home, Yep there are some effed up people on this planet.

I'd like to see those sort of stats for the US and then compare them by population. Of course we have crime, but no you DON'T need a gun.
There's nowhere in my city I would refuse to walk down the street at night.
I don't know anybody who is the victim of violent crime.
And I hope it stays like that.

Interesting facts on Australian Crime
* One in every three Australians is a victim of crime.
Its everywhere and ALL of us are affected by it.
Oh yeah, and I use a Monster ht1000 on my TV downstairs.

Don't be ridiculous - I had my wallet stolen once. I'm a victim of crime technically - everyone is eventually. I'm surprised the stat isn't 90%. How do they define "victim"?
The only disturbing Aussie stat is the rape one. That's way too high, and make me ashamed. It also could be high relative to others due to good reporting as rape is a crime that often goes unreported.
Look at the US stats. Disaster area. Look at the prison stat, the execution stat, prosecutions, rape...etc. Top of the list for most of them.

To each their own-mark, I do not think I would ever support an outright Ban on private ownership, lots of people have and use guns responsibly and to blame the chainsaw for global deforestation, or the drunk driver for not wearing a seatbelt (and I think these are comparable analogies) does not address the real issue.

my understanding is we (us Canuks) have more guns per capita that our neighbors to the south. would be interesting to compare crime rates related to guns. I agree with Jask that people kill people - not guns. However, there could be tighter control. Getting a gun for opening a bank account is insane. Went to a gun show in Miami where I could have bought a gun, a kit to convert it to a fully automatic weapon, and a bag-o-bullets with 50 yards of walking. If that girl-guide at the door would have sold me stale cookies I think ida done her in.
And some of those guns! I can't image what would be left of a moose with some of those 7million round canons.
I use an APC-300 for all my gear. The red light's being on for the past 3 years. I'm not convinced anything under 500 will save anything and over $500 doesn't justify the risk - although I might be sorry for typing this last sentence.

No, not even close!! http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=topNews&storyid=2007-08-28T174254Z_01_L28348938_RTRUKOC_0_US-WORLD-FIREARMS.xml
the crime rates related to guns is the stat that interests me as well, but the information is controlled by the politicians, and when it comes to politicans you can be sure that what you will get are" Lies, damned lies, and statistics"
A couple months ago,I had a chance to pick up a constant voltage transformer that came out of a computer room but thought at the time that it would be overkill ....DOhhhhh

K-rap! That's almost 1 per person!
I worked with a guy (US citizen) that adamantly argued "who in their right mind would pull a gun on a plane if he new everyone on that plane had a gun?" I just agreed, and slowly backed away until out of sight. That's all I need is a shoot out at the OK-Corral at 35,000 feet.

I bet the USA has higher stats in illegal aliens, too. I'm all for the $0.39 solution applied against most things--including when B.K. doesn't give it to me my way.
But this is a tangent discussion. Why would anyone buy something to protect their goods if there is a big doubt that the marketed conditions will never be honored? I've had damaged electronics before that were victims of electrical surges, but nont of the power strips did squat and they were, fortunately, covered under a different policy (replacement plan, protection plan, etc.).
I just it was interesting to note that a lot of those strips get sold based on marketing, which means little if nothing, and thence no evidence of satisfaction--as if no lightning existed.

good point...and I guess the point of the thread too. How is it that in a country that made an industry of class action, that major couriers have been nailed for failing to honour insurance claims that these bogus claims of insurance can be used to sell P.O.S. powerbars?? someone call 60 minutes

Yesterday I was in a BB and they had a bunch of shelf (demo) equipment up for sale. I picked up a Panamax M-5300 EX for $218. The manager claimed it was his cost and wouldn't go below (whether because he just wouldn't, or that it was a demo unit). Is this a good deal? No box, paperwork, or warranty. Its a risk, but I took it.
I think that since I plan on living for another 50-100 years that I should invest in a good multimeter and scope for all of these electronics I keep eying. I also eyed the Denon 4x06 they has going for about $800, but I passed on it. No amps on the tables either.

On the other hand, if you're gonna go, it's a hell of a way to go!
(But still not as impressive as the 95-year-old granny who went down in a hail of bullets when the cops busted down the wrong door in a drug sting - but not without taking down three of the cops herself first! I don't think the cops died, though, just the granny. Guess you don't bounce back from five nines to the chest like ol' fitty when you hit your tenth decade...)
Aaanyway, I don't do a lot to protect my kit. I'm in upstate NY, and we do get pretty serious thunderstorms (actually my house was hit by a tornado in 1989, when it was still my parents' house - tore half of the roof off!). But because we have a business on the property there's a big, honkin' 3-phase transformer that everything hits before it gets to the house, which helps a bit in terms of isolation, and even historically we haven't lost much stuff to strikes. The only thing I can remember recently was a computer that managed to destroy its hard drive, but that was a power drop-and-back, not a surge.
I do turn off the valuable stuff when nastiness looms, though, and I'll probably have to think about putting something in the way of the PJ. But when so much stuff is interconnected it gets tough - even with the power cord of the PJ off, it'll be electrically connected to the motion platforms up in the shop - video -> HTPC -> network -> PCs running motion platforms... so there's only so much isolation possible. And a direct strike will jump any protection you care to put in anyway - as long as it's physically connected that'll be it.
Does anybody know what actually fries on a PJ if it gets a surge? I'm guessing the LVPS would get hosed and protect the rest, so it might be cheaper just to buy some backup boards from Curt rather than throw a wad at isolators that don't work anyway. Kind of macabre but it'd get the job done.
On the other hand, if a strike will kill the tubes....
