I'd have to say yes!

Damn! I received a letter in the mail today informing me I had a ticket for running a red light. Cameras on street lights got me! I heard something about it a long time ago, but hadn't followed it. It's called "SafeLight Dallas Stops on Red". My wallet is $75 lighter...

?? We've had red light cameras for 20 years.

What about conceiled speed cameras? Do you have them? Every parked car is potentially a speed camera here..

Here in San Diego they rigged the lights so they could give more tickets out. They shortened up the yellow. It was brought out in a court case. The cameras were ran and installed by a private company and this company got part of the profits.

They just installed cameras along the beach, they say it will make things safer, but has never been proven. Extra lighting and police patrols have been proven to deter crime.

Next it will be chips and GPS in your car. Plan on getting tickets like you now receive junk mail.

It's not about safety, it's just another way to screw people.

All about the revenue. Safety my ass. How else can the professional politicians and bureaucrats justify voting themselves raises every year and increasing their pension benefits while the rest of the city employees pension plan was bankrupted????I don't even work for this crappy city and it pissed me off. The machine needs to eat though, how else will it keep getting bigger and bigger until it eats it's own self after none of us are left? They can all kiss my ass. (no I don't have authority issues) Twisted Evil

They ought to take pity on people that drive white minivans. 0-60, dawn to dusk. If you stop at the red light, you'll never get started again..Wink

75 bucks, that's cheap, I believe it's 300 here for running a red.

Interesting. I think the red-light cameras here (we have only 2-3 of them in a town of 120k) must take a picture of the DRIVER, not the back end of the vehicle. You can't issue a ticket to a white van, you can only issue the ticket to whoever was driving it. If they don't have a picture of the driver, then whoever owns the vehicle can say "well it wasn't me" and weasel out of it. If they've got a picture that looks like you, in your car, with your license plate, they've got you pretty much dead to rights.

Here in Minnesota, in the great Twin Cities - I forgot if was Minneapolis or Saint Paul - they tried the caught-on-camera trick to reduce red light runners. It did reduce the number of accidents at the intersections where the cameras were installed. However, under Minnesota law, this technique was declared unconstitutional because it focused on the car, not the driver. Our law expressly forbids this. This ruling was upheld on appeal. So, if you're in the Twin Cities, go ahead and run any red light you want - we don't care.

OK -

Let cover the basics

RED = Stop (read again if necessary)

Green = go

Yellow = go faster

They had photo radar here about 10 years ago. They used van's like Phils there. They would park them on the side of the road and leve them unatennded to get coffe. I saw those vans cause so many accidents as people slamed on their breaks to avoid the ticket. Meanwhile had the vans not been there there would be much less pain a suffering.

I did see one coverd in dog sh*t, newspaper, bran muffins and what ever elese they could get their hands on. I also belive someone tried to kamakazie into one with a bog truck but missed. Yeah we don't like photo radar here.

AnalogRocks, you are forgetting it was a politician that removed those nasty radar traps. Remember, that's how he won the election. I only voted for the dumb f*r because he promised to remove it.

Oh and then he raised taxes because he lost revenue by removing them - Doh! We all got fined!

Wow.. a whopping $75 =)
That's what an parking ticket costs over here if you park longer than what you've paid for.
If you park where you are not allowed to park it an even $100.
I was stopped by a police car yesterday and I was almost fined $90 bucks just for having an expired tax sticker on my license plate.
I managed to talk my way out of that one though by playing dumb.
I was fined about $250 by an civilian police car a couple of months ago for exceeding the speed limit with 9 km/h on a highway!

Starting this year they doubled the cost of fines here in Sweden.
Every fine issued now is twice as expensive as it was last year.

If the police see you run a red light they will pull your license on the spot and fine you a total of $450.

I'm sure there are much worse places to drive a car in than Sweden but I think it's pretty bad here.
Norway is alot worse though... they're just crazy over there. But they make more money than us too...
