|
|
Hello. I have bought a new desktop and I was planning to use it for all movies /HD Dvd, cable and music/. I have installed Onair solution gt for hd cable. It worked but all d-vhs functions did not. Vista did not recognized Jvc or Mits d-vhs connected through firewire. I have tried to install Windows XP but Vists did not allow for it. Does anybody know how to go back to XP?
I want to use it with my nec pg and sony 1031 so I am on right forum
Brdgs, Robert.

Boot to the XP CD and format your drive or use a format utility to wipe the drive out and start over.

Yes boot and nuke. You can't do it and save anything...
This has what you need, I think: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html
I've used this at times too: http://dban.sourceforge.net/
PS: Be sure you have another internet connection and you have some idea of where to get the XP drivers for all your devices if you have a "name" computer.
I installed XP for a buddy on a laptop that came with Vista, and it was a nightmare finding the XP drivers for some of the devices...normal install which should have taken a couple hours from me ended up taking about 12 hours...

Thank you both for replies. That are the solutions I was trying to avoid. What about partitioning the drive and install both?

You could use partition magic to reduce the size of your Vista partition, create a second partition and use a 3rd party boot manager OR, install XP FIRST, THEN Vista, and use the advanced options to allow you to dual boot both OS. You would be better off in my opinion getting a second hard drive and keep them on seperate discs.

It might be possible to install XP onto another HDD (keeping Vsta on the current disc), then boot the Vista CD and let it repair/create the boot menu with both Vista and XP listed in it.

Cliff, if I have XP on my C: drive now, and I add a second D: drive, can I install vista onto that second drive pretty straight forward and then have it give me the options for dual boot? or will I still need a 3rd party boot manager?

Too funny . I was told I had to pay extra to have XP loaded on my new Dell laptop instead of Vista . Untill that is I told them it was XP or no Dell .

Yep you sure can big dog. Just choose the advanced options when installing Vista and start the installation from within XP.
I'll be honest with you though, I have Vista on my PC and I never use it.
It really sucks.
Plus, it's big brother big time.

I'm writing this on a new laptop, it's been in the house for barely a week now. It's a nice Toshiba with 2 gigs of ram and Vista,
and my other PC has XP on it.
To my surprise, so far Vista has been quite good. It feels like XP with a few minor changes and of course, the fancier effects in the
GUI are kind of cool but I KNOW they eat processor power. Still, the 2 GB of RAM is probably what's keeping things working smoothly.
I'll keep XP on the desktop PC but I really don't mind having Vista on this laptop at all.

I LOVE partition magic, however, I read that it will not work on a drive that has a Vista partition. at all...

I really like Vista- just the big brother part of it pisses me off big time.. Thats why I am still on XP..
I work on computers for everyone I know( I am a tech nut which is why the CRT hobby is so cool to me). Very few of the people I know want Vista because of the big brother thing. Microsoft is like a communist regime lol.

I agree with Cliff and would use the 2nd hard drive approach to the Vista problem. Don't worry about software to switch operating systems. I don't know of a bios that doesn't let you switch boot drives.
