I'm cheap. I don't want to pay full price or anything near. Ok - Ebay seems to be a good source of used PS3's. Except there are no cheap PS3's there! At least ones that work. I'd be perfectly happy with the 20gb version - nobody wants them, right? The 20gb originally listed for $499, the 60gb for $599. Now it's $499. If all were right with the world, that would mean that good used 60gb's would be in the $300-$350 - I actually think it should be less - range, 20gb's at least $100+ less (because nobody wants them, see). But they aren't anywhere near. Used 20gb's go in the $350 neighborhood, occasionally more. I realize that they often come with games and other stuff, but even so, $350 is much too high.

It's not like these things are rare. Criminy, if you're going to bid within 80% of new, go new.

So how am I going to get a PS3 cheap? Wait two years? Anyone got one for trade (which is what I really want to do).

Easy. Save your pennies. Check vending machines for change. Carry a sack lunch to work. Buy in bulk only..(5 gallons of mayonaise...Wow!). If you smoke, dont buy any, bum them. Only shower on alternate days....

Then, after some changes you can aford to bite the bullet, and buy one of these amazing machines! Thumbs Up

You can get a 60 GB for $350 (plus the 5 BD discs, and $40 in future Sony merchandise, if you sign up for the Sony credit card.

The point I was trying to make was that people are bidding these things up so high that they'd be better off spending just a little more and getting a new one. They just aren't rare enough to justify the prices and so I'm ticked.

eBay has a tendency to attract idiots. Heck, the first time I observed people bidding on a used item for more than the new item went for was living proof that idiots made it to ePrey.

It's the psychology of an auction. People start out looking for a bargain, and wind up in a competition they dont want to lose.

Everybody seems to be using reverse psychology when I put up something for auction.

I know there are several posts out there on where to get best buy for PS3.
I just found out a couple that my wife babysits for (the husband) works at local Sony store. The story goes that he can get me discounts on everything in the store EXCEPT for the PS3. Employees can't even get discounts on it. ALSO the credit card offer (sign up for Sony credit and get $150 off first purchase) exempts the PS3 (only the PS3). Can anyone else confirm this (thinking this might be a local thing).

I thought the Xbox couldn't stream .ts files. Was this the original Xbox I am thinking of?

The credit card offer works on the PS3. Two long thread at AVS discuss it at length. There is an inventory issue for the 60GB units.

Maybe this is a Canadian thing. I'll check the AVS threads

I'm curious about this as well. Really, I would like to be able to use it as a quasi media server for the occasional pre-show slides and for playing ripped DVDs, but I really don't know the limitations. I know that it has some media player functionality, but I don't know the extents. I plan on wading through the fanboy mess on the A site one of these days to attempt some answers, but keep finding other stuff to give my attention to. Until then, it's far from killing me to eject one disk and load another.

I guess I'll get to find out everything I wanted to know about the PS3 next week. I got lucky and stumbled onto a sale for a 60GB version this morning on AVS. The guy was selling it for $375 with a Tiger Woods game thrown in. Imagine my surprise when I logged into my Paypal account for the first time in at least 6 months and discovered that I had a $141 balance that I had completely forgotten about. Add in the $90 I just sold my old CLM for, and I just snagged a 60GB PS3 for $143. Oh HELL yeah!

I am officially format neutral. Dave is never going to forgive me. Mr. Green
