There are plenty of cheaper BR players now - and they are getting cheaper all the time.

You may call $500 getting cheaper, but not compared to the $199 I paid for both of my HD DVD players (bought at separate times from different places).

I'm certainly glad to see prices coming down, but will not go neutral until they hit my magic $200 level.

As far as Joe Public is concerned - HD-DVD is another FLA (five letter acronym) - Bluray 'sounds' cool. In the end, this format war will be decided by Joe, not by enthusiasts like us

I completely disagree on the name. I am an Electronic Engineer and while Bluray may sound cool to all of my technical colleagues, my non-technical friends all say WTF is Bluray, but clearly understand that HD DVD means High Definition.

I however agree that it will be decided by J6P and he will go with the lowest price product. And don't bother with the studio support argument. The studios will all eventually support amy product that sells.

Nuts!

It's all about money. Who can spend the most, will earn the most, and that's it. What the consumer thinks, was moot even before it all started.

Bucketfoot, it sounds like you are trying to focus on the discounted approach to high-definition habits. While I am not suggesting anyone go and spend more than what is necessary, if you do not or can not afford the habit then switch to a cheaper drug.

For instance, I couldn't or didn't want to afford the Blu-ray drug until it was more.better affordable, and now it is. For you, it can't unitl is 1/5 the opening day price. With this in mind, you should stick with HD DVD and regular DVD, but for some of us, Blu-ray isn't all that much more.

And nice example of how your friends have high-definition ignorance to deal with. Maybe they should do some reading? Very Happy
