Marty Scorcese comes up trumps again.
We watched this today, and were utterly stunned. Totally masterful storytelling.
I have Infernal Affairs, and was surprised to be "watching the same movie", but the remake is crash hot.
Looks kinda nice, too.
Highly recommended. Especially Mark Wahlbergs dialogue...

I agree Marky Mark shows up as a serious actor in this movie.I am really suprised at the number of people who I have talked to in the last month that thought this was an allright movie...or just o.k....??
Good acting, script, camera work, adaptation of the original movie.... ah well, these same people like Ben Stiller movies too......(quickly dons flame proof suite)

I thought the characters in the Departed were shallow and sterotypical. It was stale and every premise had been done before in different movies. I didn't dislike it as much as "Gangs of New York" but endless gratuitous violense isn't enoguh to keep me interested. I guess I really didn't like it, other movies in this genre like "Goodfella's" and "Road to Perdition" were a lot better and offered a different perpesctive on the old "Mafia" theme.

I have to agree this is not going to find its way to the top of my gangster movie pile,in fact it will be tucked under my Sopranos box sets as far as its ranking, but it was easy to watch.
predictable!?? not for me- other than the to be expected signature Scorsese ( in the Sam Peckinpah tradition)splatterfest.I thought it would have been a lot better without Matt Damon but I could watch it again...... have not done that yet.....but I could
Pete, you HATED it? what didn't you like about it?

I thought that it was boring/predictable/uninteresting/etc.
Hell - you knew after the first 30mins what was going to happen. The characters were so shallow and the storytelling so flat that I had no interest in them what so ever - I just wanted the movie to END.
and even that took way too long

I haven't watched this yet. Atleast tell me there's some mindless violence to pad the time with.

Hmmm wonder if I can return it? Nope already cracked the seal. Ahh well I may enjoy it anyhow.
I always liked Martin Scorsese's stuff.

Finaly had a chance to get the HD-DVD drive running.
I watched the Departed. EXCELLENT film! I enjoyed the whole movie. All 2 hours and 24 minutes of it.

Try "The Good Shepherd" next. It's a much better movie (and very nice PQ, too).

I'll have to look into these. I go on vacation this week so I'll see if I can find a copy to watch.

It seems movies are like politics and religion: Everyone disagrees and no one's opinion is ever changed.
I loved The Departed and thought The Good Shepard was so-so at best.

I don't consider it gratuitous violence. Another great flick in my opinion.
Can you tell I'm a big Scorsese fan?

Hmm I didn't like 'Gangs of New York' just didn't do anything for me, nor did it have any re-watchability factor.
