Chronicles of Ridick. I did some more messing around, not too much progress but some. One thing for sue is even the new longbows need some modifying, i need to first do the HVPS as there is back ground noise there that i don't have in my older marquee's that I did do the modification to. those carbon comp resistors are much noisier than the Ohmite ceramics.
Now on this one if you compare it to VPHG90's on AVS its much darker, to match his i would have to raise brightness up to 80, mine is at 53. there is no way he has FFTB as even at 53 i do not.

Is there really that much difference in colors? Seems huge? or was it from camera perhaps. If it is from mod then thats really good one! |
Oh yeah, we've made some very substantial improvements. So much so, that I'm thinking of an entirely new version of my mods. In the 6 or 7 years of doing them, I've implemented a lot of changes to them over that time period. Some of the changes did not really yield a real and measurable performance increase and they were either no longer done to the boards, or did not warrant enough of a change to claim a different version. So far I've only produced 3 different versions of my Marquee mods. And I'm thinking of the forth now.
But dude, you have great discernment there. You remind me of Ile (Barco mod guru).
Man, If I had you here in the mod factory this past week, I'm sure I could blow your mind with some of the things I've been looking at and the changes I've been able to make happen..
There's a few things I'll be posting over on the mod forum sometime soon after I catch up on things. Keep your eyes open for my post there.
Oh, let me give you a little something to hold onto until i get there..... On the +/- 14 rails going into the VIM. I'm dropping that voltage to +/- 12 volts......
That's one of three changes I've made..

Alright guys, finally got around to posting pics. Not sure if the detail comes through, but here is a screen shot. Keep in mind this is on my wall in my shop with a quicky hour setup. 1080p 60 hertz, no external gamma adjustments.

Thanks! It's still a bit on the soft side, but I have not done any magnetics, and I know my mechanical setup could be better. The projector is on a cart which I try not to budge as I've been going along.
One of these days I will have to make the trip. I don't think you are too far away from me. You have quite the setup, and I'd be interested in checking it out and gleening some knowledge from you. I had a Marquee 8000 for the past 5 years or so, but getting this 8500 was what finally really spurred me to build a true theatre around a pj.
I don't have the room for a blend, but this 8500 should give me a decent enough picture. My screen will be a 54"X96" Wilsonart screen. I'm building the room now, so I'm hoping to hang the projector in a few weeks. We'll see, a few more tweaks to go!

I have a customer (Nasa Glenn) up your way not far from the airport. the next time I have to come that way, I'll shoot you a line since i'm usually there for at least two days.
So work on that screen, and by the time I'm back in your area, you'll not have to worry about a setup. I'll take care of that for you. And you can get to see 4 9500LC's firing on four different screens (edge match).
I'll let you know the next time I'm up that way..

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the offer. I have not seen a pro do a setup before, so I would definitely accept any help you would be kind enough to offer. NASA Glenn is probably about 45 minutes from my house (airport is 25-30m, but Glenn is on the other side, so 45m should be pretty realistic), so that would be fantastic. No slouching here, I have my entire first floor under construction in an attempt to make the house presentable for Christmas Eve, so my wife is holding me to my time table!
Drop me a line when you know your headed this way and we can go from there.
Thanks!
Paul

I was messing around with calibration and my eye1pr o but things were not looking right. So i reseaerced and found out i should gave stored the probe when not in use in a sealed bag with dessicants . So now I think the probe is off and I need to send it in for calibration. So i messed things up and i decided to trust my own eyes and do it that way. Not too bad I think. and the New Moome cards gamma helped, three clicks from 0 on these shots with a single click drop in brightness afterwards.
Here you can see where the gamma helped on the bark.
the new card did better here also with no gamma butt he few clicks helped and kept black where it should be.

First shots in a while... Tried to do some from UP, but the PIP and bar keep coming up. Can we do anything about this, or are the studios wanting to curtail this activity?
