Well, it's time to do some LC modification work on my new test projector. I don't have enough new fluid to do the job and will have to order some. I'm not happy with Ashland Chemicals coolant. It's not as clear as I think it should be. There's been a lot of LC work going on lately so there must be a prefered brand that meets our high standards? I plan on ordering a gallon. Thanks,

MCM Electronics 1 800 543-4330 In Ohio. You can order online. Not sure if they sell gallons. Doug

Techman707 on the A site used to recommended the RCA coolant that was available at MCM as being superior. He never said why. I have used it several times and been very happy. It was very clear and, not sure if this is important or not, "less watery" than the generic stuff I bought previously. Not sure if MCM still sells it though.

MCM still has the RCA coolant for sale here:

http://www.mcminone.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=MCMProducts&category%5Fname=3830471&product%5Fid=212072

However, it's back-ordered and this place has it for about half the price, and even cheaper for a 6-pack:

http://www.teeveesupply.com/product_pages/rca_parts.htm

I might give the second place a call, and see what's up.

Sweet, I'll give teevee a call today. A six pack will get me done with the first one. Oooopps, did I just let the cat outta the bag. "the fist one" Does that mean that more than one 4600 is being modified at the same time.
Stay tuned, same bat time, same bat channel Laughing

How about a place in Europe that sells proper glycol? The U.S. based shops don't ship chemicals to us.

I can get it from Barco for 95 euro/liter, but you need three bottles for a 9"LC projector. Alternatives are welcome.

You should be able to find it through a chemical supply house in the Netherlands . In the US you can get pure ethylene glycol by the gallon from Clarke electronics for about $45
http://www.picturetubes.net/ Many recommend 75% glycol mixed w 25% Glycerin

If you need it for the short term, I've got the stuff you gave me and a few quarts scavanged from that RD801.

You already gave me that stuff back. I actually don't want to use it. I want clearer coolant for the "project", so it can be all that it can be Wink

A much cheaper alternative is to get mono-ethylene glycol from Kremer Pigmente in Germany. It is product nr. 70910 and costs a bit less than 10 euro per liter, see
http://www.kremer-pigmente.de/shopint/index.php?cat=030103&lang=ENG&product=70910

I ordered 2 l via their web site and got it in less than a week, for 30.93 euro including tax and post (to Netherlands).

Unfortunately they do not sell glicerine. I got 1 l of this from a local chemist (for 12 euro) but I just discovered that it is glicerine 1.23, which means it is diluted, with only 86.5% glicerine. I am afraid that with a mix glycol/glicerine of 70%/30% the index of refraction would be too different. This would be much less of an issue for a mix 90/10, but I wonder if this mix is close enough to neutral (pH = 7), as desired. So I am still looking for some pure glicerine at the moment..

Ciao,

Pier
