If you are wanting to keep tabs on what is happening with digitals there are 2 absolute must see sites.
www.projectorcentral.com - They tell you who the top selling projectors are, do reviews on many and have specs and user reviews. I spent almost 5 years looking at digitals on this site and watched them evolve.
www.projectorreviews.com If you see a projector that is touted to be the best you can visit this site. He gives really good reviews and has many photos for comparison. He has a projector list and you can go back and see previous versions of the "hot" digitals. The Sanyo Z3 looks like junk compared to the Z5.
to quote part of his site.. "This image below, demonstrates the Optoma HD73's DEEP BLACK LEVELS and rich, saturated colors. Click on the image for a larger version"...
The HD72 was my top choice when I was looking at digitals. In the space scenes you can really see that a nice digital still only does charcoal grey for a black.
On the Optoma HD73 review he compares the many different pixel stuctures on the image quality tab showing Sanyo's nasty screendoor to the Panasonic 100U's "smoothscreen" technology. There is a great comparison photo, well 2 actually just open both and flip back and forth. "Smoothscreen" seems to delete the pixels, but leaves you wanting to focus it. Having seen it in person, it is annoying. Very bright projector though. Too bad average lifespan of bulb is just over 1000 hrs! Yoikes!

ProjectorCentral?
Why not tell them to buy a projector from a white van?

Yeah, board rooms, mobile presentations. The homes of the average HT guy/gal.
I hope that today, some guy in the suburbs of philly, decides to go digital, and post his G-90 on Craigslist. Cm'on dude, the new Sanyo is "killer"

You should always be aware of the competition.
Check out the Optoma HD73's pictures of "inky blacks" too funny.
I'm glad I saw the dark before I threw my money away.

There is no competition.
I like CRT's the hobby, not just the picture. So let the lightbulbs, get better.
I'm happy here 8)

Mr green i have a suggestion for ya.
On August 19, 2007 they are holding the Pebble beach Concours d' Elegance.
You should go, find someone that owns one of these...
Say to the guy.. "You know they are making better cars than these today. You should be aware of the competition"
I think they will appreciate your thoughts, just as much as i do

Curt, You made my day. I have that under my nameplate at work now. If someone askes a stupid question I just point them to it and they leave me alone.
emdawgz1, I HAVE SEEN THE BLACK!!! I am going to buy a CRT!
All I was saying is anyone interested in the hobby of HT should find digitals interesting, regardless of whether or not you like them. If for some reason (work, travel) you needed a digital you would find those sites very interesting. If you had to buy one, you would want to do your homework.
Don't get me started on new cars either. I own a 1967 Ford F100 p/u great condition and only 87,000 original miles. I've spent a ton of money tinkering with it. Another hobby for me. Would I trade in my truck in for a new one... uh let me think... NO!

Good place for specs and such. Terrible for editorial content. I'm always amazed how little "industry" sites such as these know.

C'mon be a real man! I travled 6400Km last year with my Sony 1252. It's portable. There's handles. It was a good vacation.

Even a PG at 126 lbs, I wouldn't want to, but I probably would "have to" demo it at friends houses so they could see it in thier space to "make sure it fits".
I don't know why, but I thought it was you! I knew I had read in here somewhere, they'd packed a CRT all over in the back of a car.
"No officer, there's nothin in the trunk... except my alien triple beam anti aircraft weapon!... Yes, I'm kidding! No, you don't need backup!"
Try and get a CRT on the plane as a carry on.

Ask Pete about packing CRT's in the trunk. As I recall the customs guys wanted to know just how he got that in there. I did it in an S-10 with a hard cover. Essentially just a bigger trunk. And yes I actually crossed the border with it. I was disapointed. I don't think they asked me to open the back that time. I just love people reactions. I got alot of "WHAT'S THAT THING?" I guess I should have made a sign saying "This is my TV"
Can't do the carry on. It won't fit the little frame they have at the airport to test fit your carry on. Too bad. I've traveled with some neat toys as a carry on.

A much better site for info on digital PJs is ProjectorReviews.com. Much more in-depth reviews. BTW, you shouldn't get hung up on screenshots- they don't really tell you much. They're almost always taken with lo-fi digital cameras with limited resolution and few exposure settings.
I will probably never be into the "culture of CRT." I'm a pragmatist, plain and simple. I don't like the "LP rituals", either- the fiddlling with VTA, adjusting tracking, endlessly cleaning records, etc. No, I'm not strictly a plug&play guy, but I'm more interested in the ends than the means. I want a bright, well saturated image with good geometry, corner to corner uniformity & black blacks. If this requires CRT, SED, D-ILA, DLP DarkChip 8, Lasers, or some technology we haven't dreamed up yet...well, it matters not a whit to me. I want a great image and I don't care how I have to get it, with the caveat that I'm not a rich man, so it must be financially attainable.
On the other hand, I do like tubed audio, tube rolling, etc.

Ooops, didn't remember you linked that site already. Excellent site, though. JVC has taken digital to the point that a couple stalwart CRT guys at AVS are buying RS1s.
