seeking some help for next steps in aligning the red tube on a Sony VPH-1040QM
i can align green and blue nicely, however red horizontal is still a few cm off when using the knob and pot adjustments to the max
i've read through the service manuals and through some forum posts, some comments reference adjusting the yoke however i thought it best to see if anyone can confirm before i much around with that
appreciate all advise!

On any CRT projector, always always always (!) center all the electronic controls and do a mechanical setup first to align the lenses for your throw distance / screen size. Then use the electronic controls (the knobs and pots you mention).

I've never owned a Sony 1040 but seems it uses spacers/lens rings to this initial mech setup. The install guide on our website explains this:

http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/Sony1040_1041_Install.pdf

While many of the features won't be found on this low end Sony, you should also read this:

http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTSetupGuide.shtm

Good luck!

Kal

thank you Kal appreciate the steer.

i've gotten through the manual isntall & service listed on your site (thanks again for providing the great resources too), and throw distance etc all seem correct.

I'll have a go with the lens spacers and see if i can center there first,

For sure. You have to set the lens spacers for your screen size otherwise things will be off.

well RTFM,

for anyone coming across this particular projector
1- it has custom/bespoke spacer bars for the tube mounting, if you are missing these for a particular config likely you will need to use springs/washers to achieve the desired result
2- for the lens spacing, the manual lists guide marks/holes for 100" & 200" and advises the 100" is fit for the 72", however the unit also has a mark for 72" which needs to be used specifically for 72", go figure.

my next problem is one of the trim pots have failed, RV16, 1-230-630-11, Res, ADJ, Carbon 10K, reading now into replacements,

Mouser should have a replacement. They are nothing critical, just get the lead spacing about right. eBay will probably have something too.
