Hello

My 1209 behaves very strange. When I start it up thereīs this flickering/unstable image almost like it doesenīt get enough power and the red tube is off or very limited. After running for maybe 20 minutes the problem sometimes goes away and you can watch a movie, but then after around 2 hours the image just goes black. The projector is still on but thereīs no image.

I havenīt used my pj for maybe around 6 months and tried to watch a movie a couple of days before. I donīt know if that has anything to do with it.

If someone please could tell me whatīs wrong with it or what to look for Iīd be very grateful.

Best regards.

Thanks for your answer. No I have another question.

I have an old BD 808 lying around. Can I take the quadrupler or splitter from the 808 and put in the 1209? Is it a diffucult procedure, do I need to contact some sort of a proffessional or can it be done buy anyone with some basic eletronic knowledge?

Best regards

The splitter of them can be shared ,You can try replacing the splitter first。I used to replace the splitter of C9 with the splitter of 708。

Both the splitter and quad can be exchanged. Don't cut that thin white wire on the splitter, unsolder it at the two points and transfer it over to the replacement splitter.

I had a friend over a few weeks ago that helped med replace the HV-splitter. After that the flickering went away after a few miniutes and I was able to watch a movie. But when I try to watch a movie now the image goes black after 20 miniutes and dosent come back. The PJ is still on but no image. Could this have to do with the quadrupler? We only replaced the HV-splitter and didnīt touch the quadrupler.

Thanks

Absolutely is probably the quad and I have a Barco 708 that does the same thing.

I hade a friend over and we also changed the quad. So now both the splitter and quad are replaced, but the problem is still there. The image flickers for a few miniutes and then everything goes black.

Iīd be grateful for some input on what could cause this.

Best regards.

When there is no picture do you still see light at the tube neck near the output amp at the back of the tube? If not then you probably have a Power supply problem. If there is light then the HT has failed. IF the parts you have replaced are good then the other boards that will effect HT are the EHT, Horizontal and Vertical boards. The EHT is next to the Quad. If you look down on top of the EHT you should see an LED through a small hole in the top of the EHT if that is RED then one of the boards mentioned above has a problem. If you have spares swap each one out one at a time.

Good Luck.

Keep in mind that quads and splitters were drifting in value when I got out of CRT about 5 years ago, due to the silicone sealant getting conductive. You may be able to mix and match quads and splitters out of the 4 you have to get it running.
It could also be the EHT board that is shutting down the HV too early, however I cannot give advice on that, as you need a good HV probe and the Barco extender boards to properly set the EHT board.
Setting the HV or shutdown incorrectly can snap a tube neck.

Or the EHT board could be defective. That's far less likely than the quad or splitter being bad.
