Now I'm watching the Expanse. Seasons 4-6. I miss this show. It was so well done back in 2015 on SyFy then it got canned after season 3 and Jeff Bezos wanted to watch more so he had Amazon Video produce it.
Man that's some kind of power.

Just watched the first eppisode of Boba Fett's story. It picks up right after han Solo sends him into the Sarlac pit in Return of the Jedi

Yeah I was ready to watch 3 or 4 episodes. When I watched the Mandelorian I watched it all.
I miss box sets. Where I want when I want.
I was going to buy the Mandalorian box set but in the Amazon reviews it says it's a boot leg

I believe Disney's moving to not release any of their exclusive content on physical media anymore. They're trying to get people to sign up for their service instead and keep paying for it. Used to be that once their shows ran their course it would come out on physical media around 6 months later. Not anymore, since their streaming service was launched.

In other news. I now have 41 channels ATSC OTA. 39 of them reliably. It's like 80's cable all over again!

39 is a lot!
Couple of months ago my parents needed a new TV and wanted to consider dropping satellite TV, so I built a DIY HDTV antenna out of scraps just to see how well it worked. Something like this: https://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-HDTV-Antenna
With it out on the desk in my office I was able to get about half a dozen station reliably. Could probably get more with a better one and placing it up high. Unfortunately wasn't able to get anything at all at their home (they're more rural). Looking at tower maps there wouldn't be enough to cover what they want anyway... Nothing really interesting in town either ... mostly local stations, PBS, etc.
It is kinda weird trying old antenna methods however!

Yeah on a little antenna with no amp you might get 3-5 channels. I'm fortunate in that I have the CN-Tower and Grand Isle NY in the same line of site so one amplified antenna does it all. No need to rotate

I haven't tried OTA in 10 yrs or more. It's extra challenging for me since I have a hill between me and Denver, where many of the stations are. But there are a few local channels that might be worth trying.
Last time I tried, I had a DirecTV receiver and fed that into my projector. Now I'm just going to use my TV. I assume a 5-yr-old Samsung UN55J620D should handle digital OTA? It didn't come with a manual, and the manuals I can find online don't talk about hooking up an antenna.
Due to covenants and an obnoxious neighbor I can't have an outdoor antenna, but I don't have an appropriate cable run anyway. I'll just experiment with a 4' long yagi I used last time. It'll look pretty weird in the living room, but I'm totally isolated anyway, so nobody will see it ...

You mean you aren't supposed to have a series of yagi's an vertical antennas in the livingroom on tripods? Like the one 6 feet to my left? hehe
You are right on the Samsung, doesn't tell you if it has a tuner or not. I'm currently running a made in the USA Contemporary Research ATSC tuner. Damn solid piece. My previous 19" Memorex TV would 'overload' on signal after a while and start getting freezes. This one just keeps working.

Yeah in the manual I found, it says the "Auto Program" channel scan is in the MENU -> Broadcasting menu. Which is grayed out...
Maybe I need to have a cable or antenna connected to make those choices available. I'll dig out the yagi and see what I can do.

I wouldn't think so ... that would be extra work/parts for them to include for little benefit. Even sticking a bent paperclip into the RG6 hole (ungrounded) would get some channels on the Samsung TV I had bought my parents.

That's always how I test the TV's at the thrift store. I often leave them set up and running only to watch them sell within minutes. AND not sell to me.
Although my 19" TV came from thrift that way too but without watching it for hours you would never know about the freezing bug.

I may have to try that. I dug out my yagi and then realized I didn’t have a coax cable for it. I’ve got cables with BNC connectors, but nothing with plain old 50 ohm antenna cable. (And I tried. They don’t fit. ). I don’t expect I’ll get a usable signal out of it, though. Signals are too weak here.

I confess I’ve never understood the TV signal boosters. Sure they boost the signal, but they boost the noise with it too! How does that help?
$50 or more just to see if it works, don’t think it’s worth that.

No booster. 6-9 channels. Cutting in and out. Booster 39 channels. Stable.
Yeah if you're in a vally you may not be able to get much. I remember being in the White Mountains in NH in a valley and couldn't get squat.
On the other hand if you do find a length of co-axial cable try it out. Experimenting is fun!
