Colored 144's are a better option.

Suppose I don’t move the projector, how much difference in focal length between HD8 and HD144? Can I compromise the tube screen size or is it zooming instead of out?

The HD144's will make the image larger at the same throw distance. If I remember correctly on my 106" screen the 144's brought the pj about 6-8" closer to the screen to fill the screen

Update to the project:

We where never really satisfied with the glare from the black but flat and shiny fabric in the ceiling and I have been looking out for sound absorbers for a long time. Found 100 of them for 1.5 USD each and in 60x60 cm size. Unfortunately they are from the 80s and I’ve noticed newer ones are thicker but fluffier which I assume would dampen more midrange. These are far more solid but the HF damping is very good if you hold one up and speak against it and listen. Next issue to tackle is the color since they where of course matte white. Got a quote of 22 USD each to get them painted despite no prep work needed. For that money I could buy paint, hardener, thinner and a spray gun with plenty of cash to spare. Never wet painted except for can spray paint but this should be a forgiving project.

First attempt was with a spray can just to see if this was viable. Result was ok but the cost would have been tremendous.

Next up was to order two-component paint and buy a paint gun. It took forever to get started and by the end I concluded that my time was more valuable than paint so I laied it thick and from several angles to get into the grooves/dimples of the surface. They are still drying so tomorrow I will see how they turned out and hopefully install them.

Nice score! Not sure you have it there but a flat black ceiling paint does wonders for the room

Today was build and jigsaw day. The material was fairly easy to cut to shape with a carpenters knife, but some misalignments accumulated and there were compromises around the existing fluorescent fixtures. We discussed removing them but they stay for the moment. The LED replacements are 180 spread versus 360 for real fluorescents so painting the fixtures black would have faily low impact on their function. Let’s see.

It’s 32 degrees here and the ceiling of the warehouse is certainly not any lower, so enough for today.
