Hey Guys. New to this site and also new to my Newest Purchase.
I have a Marquee 8000 and am currently learning about it everyday. I have a few questions and I do not know a ton about the terminology and how they all work. I have read through the training manuals and have basically reset the whole projector and started over. I have gotten pretty far and it looks really good but I know there is a ton of other things that I have not gotten to.

1st question is: I am currently running a 30 ft HDMI cable from projector to Direct TV Box. adapter is from the dvi to HDMI
The picture looks good. I have got a lot of tweeking to do but it is good enough to watch currently. My son wants the playstation 3 hooked up so he and his friends could play a game. I take the hdmi and change from direct tv to playstation and the picture is terrible. I understand that it is a different source so I would have to do a converge and mess around with that. how do I do this and not mess with the converge that I have already done with the cable? my setup is far away and I definatley don't want to buy another hdmi cord due to how expensive they are in that long of a cable.

Please any help would be greatly appreciative. I believe I am smart enough to figure these projectors out. Just really new to me.

Welcome!

We are all a little nuts here but that's ok. Your problem can be solved with two of the standard Marquee firmware features, Recall Memories and Channel Numbers.

This really is pretty simple. Each "port" or input to the projector has its' own memory, Source 01 (a.k.a. "S01") for the first RGBHV port, S02 for the second port if installed, S03, S04, S05, and S06 if the decoder is used. If one has a Marquee switcher then the ports are S11, S12 and so on, depending on which slots have input cards installed. A "Memory" is all the keyed in adjustments made to optimize a given signal, these include Contrast, Brightness, H Size, V Size, Convergence, Keystone, Pin, Phase. If you have need for multiple setups with one port, then Recallable Memories, or "Recalls" can be employed; they replace the port memories when needed. Source or Recall memories can be copied back and forth in Utilities. To go to a given input, you would push "Source 01" or "Source 02" and the projector switches to that port. If you also need a Recall memory 03 for that signal you must also push "Recall 03"; that is a total of six button presses; you are at risk of spilling your beer in a dark room! ASR, or Auto Source Recall, can be switched on for any port; with ASR on, the signal being viewed is clocked for its' H and V scan rate (see ** for scan rate readout) and compared to the lists of existing memories for an exact match. If a match is found then that memory is brought up. If the scan rate falls in between two existing setups, then ASI happens; "Auto Source Interpolation", an average of the settings of the two memories are employed and stored temporarily in the working memory of what is displayed right now. Since this is not a distinct discrete memory itself, adjustments made during ASI are not saveable for later. If you have several aspect ratios happening at the same scan rates then you do not want to use ASR, it cannot tell which aspect memory to bring up, it will only grab the last one you adjusted. In this case, leave ASR off, and program your inputs and recalls into the Channel List (see UTIL 2) This allows for input and recall memory selection, once it is programmed, by one or two button presses.

Your situation is best managed by use of Channel Numbers, as are the needs for most HTs:

As to employing Channel Numbers, set up your channel list something like
this if using a scaler with passthru:

Ch.......Name..............Input......Recall

01.......DVD 4:3.............01..........01

02.......DVD 16:9...........01..........02

03.......DVD 2.35...........01..........03

04.......Sat 4:3..............01..........04

05.......Sat 16:9............01..........05

or like this if satellite is the projectors' 02 input:

Ch.......Name.............Input.......Recall

01.......DVD 4:3........... 01..........01

02.......DVD 16:9..........01..........02

03.......DVD 2.35..........01..........03

04.......Sat 4:3.............02..........04

05.......Sat 16:9...........02..........05

Find Preferences in the Util menu and set for single digit channel select. When you select a given source, push 1,2,3 or 4 on the Marquee remote and you will pull up the appropriate memory bank. Dial in the alignments for each memory and you are all set.

Thank You. I appreciate it a lot. I have a ton of other small questions as well but I will work on them all one by one.
it is all a very big learning curve! and sometimes very complicated.

Set 24fps on the PS3 to off and set the output resolution to the same as the direct TV box. eg if DT box is 1080i set PS3 for 1080i. If it's 720p set the PS3 for 720P etc

Guys

The Moome MUX is a 4 in HDMI switcher with HDCP stripping; highly recommended.

Alright!! I got the 3 inputs working good. Now on to next..... I have a green line showing on the right side of my screen. what causes this and how do I get rid of it. Also is there a bible of settings that work best for all of the options like contrast and tint and color? is there like a normal go to setup or is it all different?

I have dug around when doing converge and have seen a Auto-Learn or something like that. I have never read anything on it in manual but just was curious what this option was. I have the picture looking good but I know there is a million more things you can do.. any help dialing it in would be cool

The Marquees are somwhat (in)famous about there are a ton of mod you can/should perform to get better performance or get rid of annoying quirks... One of these is the bright line on the side of the image. You most likely want to look around the CRT specific section of this site, but first this is what you want:
http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/ElectrohomeMarqueeTechnicalBulletin_TBC94-8.doc

Otherwise there are no optimal or universal settings for CRT as setup parameters are never the same (screen size, room ambient light, CRT wear, etc). The tint and color settings are I believe only effective when using the decoder input (source 03 and up) and use it as you like the picture better.

Tint and color are two settings that do absolutely nothing unless you are using a composite or S-Video input.
On the HDMI input, they do nothing.

The Marquee chassis, for all its weaknesses, is still a solid projector that can deliver excellent images and they are simpler
and easier to maintain than the other major projector types, and also more reliable than most. But they're also not getting any younger and it's been quite a few years since the last 8000 was made.

If you stick with CRT you will want to give thought to upgrading from an 8000 to an 9500LC at some point, which will give
obvious picture quality improvements over an 8000 in every single way that matters. Higher resolution capability, sharper, brighter, crisper images, more control over the shape of the electron beam facilitating higher resolution through sharper focus, better lenses, the list goes on.

But if you know how to run an 8000, you already know 90 percent of how to run a 9500LC. So the 8000 is a great place to start.
