"CRT's biggest flaw is resolution and sharpness"....uh, no. It wasn't until very recently, in terms of the age of electronics, that there was any digital device that could even APPROACH the resolution capacity of CRT projectors.

For several years now, many of us have been watching fully resolved 1080p imagery on the best CRT projectors, at a time when
you'd have to pay more for a digital projector that could do that than the retail price of a new Marquee.

As for sharpness, sharpness in a digital projector can be rightly described as an ARTIFACT born of its intrinsic pixelized structure.

When you build your world out of blocks, curves are a challenge. As any Minecraft player knows.

No, CRT's biggest flaw is limited light output and limited tube life. But I observe that there are a great many CRT projectors out
there that have been retubed and are running strong with way over 50,000 chassis hours on their clocks.

You will NEVER find many digital projectors that will still be in good running shape at 50,000 hours run time. In fact I question whether or not you'll find many that will make 10,000 hours.

I'd like to go to this meet but it's a logistical impossibility. Too bad, I'd bring along some of my tube stock and try to sell a few. Very Happy

Chris,

You can always stay at our home just south of the Rockford Il airport. Your flight would be from Sanford. We have a beautiful home with 2 extra rooms. Flight cost round trip can be had for $200.00 or so. Car rental with Ann's discount is usually 21.00 per day unlimited mileage. PM me if interested.

And why is a JVC rep coming to a meet a secret may I ask?

Andreas,

Sometimes it seems like a dick swinging contest with childish outbursts. Both sides need to learn to just be happy with what they like. At the end of the day none of this stuff really matters. When I die my coffin is going to be shaped like a CRT projector...... Not

Fully resolved 1080p on a CRT is impossible anyone with some knowledge knows that as most of you guys watch with MTF around 30% at 1080p.

And you have a big problem as almost all source material is digital and based on digital masters and thus pixelbased. Wink

And to me sharpness is something natural as when I use my eyes I see things very sharp and when I look at my JVC it is much closer to what I see with my eyes than any CRT. When it also has very poor light output, very poor intrascene contrast (ANSI contrast)+++ it has a very poor looking picture to me. But like what you like I donīt mind, just donīt tell me it is better than a JVC RS600 as it is very far from that.

I have no worry about life of my projector as I have not owned a projector past 1000 hours, but I know of many JVCīs with 10000+ hours on the counter and still going strong.[/quote]

It is not important as all to me and I would have no problem admitting a CRT to be better than my RS600 (but it will never happen), but it seems like it is to others. Wink

Here is an example of what the meet will look like when the Marquee and RS600 will be seen side by side.

Good luck!

The CRT is calibrated by Stridsvognen...Look at those natural colors and grayscale with no colorshifts.Wink

And dont blame the camera, if you know a little about photography it will not look like that if it looks good on screen.

I like it when you guys jump on shots. All the clarity is on my screen so why show it before the meet. Very disappointing you pick on that shot I am laughing at you and your JVC. Don't worry I have correct colors and focus and a better picture. Glad you keep wasting your time to compare when there will be no where to hide at the meet.

I say it right now I will have the best image period wow us with the James bond shot lol. Want me to post that side by side? Didderon knows it will be a beat down.

Kurt says he will be at the meet and you can present your evidence there in person 😂

What I find amusing with you CRT guys is that you always think you will get something better if you just spend some hours or days to adjust thing a little tighter and the magic of MP will make your CRTīs 1000% better.

And everytime we post a side by side it was a very poor picture you posted only to make us take the bait. LOL Cool

Here is the JB picture you think so highly of, still looks like sh*t to me... Thumbs Up

The blue/magenta tint on your CRT is not supposed to be there, the yellow tint on the JVC is there by the Directors and DOPīs intention. Google yellow tint Spectre and find out your self.

And on the CRT JB looks like he is made of plastic, not very natural to me.Wink

Actually, the TRUE master of any film (if it is not CGI) is the analog real world and not a pixellated facsimile of it

For ANY practical and realistic purposes, an MTF value of 30 percent qualifies as fully resolved according to the technical standards
of the entire video industry. In fact, a value of 15 percent is the point of acceptance as "resolved".

No doubt digitals have come a long way in a relatively short period of time, and they're now quite watchable. But it has taken
more than 20 years and literally billions of dollars invested in research, development, and manufacturing infrastructure to create a digital image generator technology that can be rightly said to generally equal the image quality you can get out of an overgrown VACUUM TUBE with a phosphor layer on the anode, fed a variable signal on the cathode and first grid, charged to 35KV on the anode, and controlled by electromagnets hooked up to well designed drive circuits.

The CRT is such a simple device, so easily understood, that an enthusiastic hobbyist can literally make his own in his garage, if he has a few skills including glassblowing skills. And that technology lasted nearly a century before there was a viable competitor that has cost billions to develop and requires manufacturing facilities and technologies that cost tens to hundreds of millions of dollars.

I find it absolutely comical that people spend so much time, money, and effort to try to do digitally what is so cheap and easy to do with a glorified vacuum tube and some magnets.

After all that, it took this long and that much money to FINALLY generate a picture quality that actually can challenge the venerable, positively grandfatherly CRT.

Don't you just hate it when some guy in a cheap, simple old jalopy beats you at the drag strip with your fancy new factory hot rod?
