The Marquee won't sync on 1080P-24. Not sure about a Barco.
Be sure that your player is outputting 1080P-60 or higher.
I had the same issue and it turns out that my player was trying to deliver 24 FPS. Too slow. After changed it to 60 FPS, perfection.

3:2 pulldown would work for 1080P.

nope, tested this again, and still wouldn't sync right How about the 'deep colour' funtion would that make a diffrence?
(not in resolution ofcourse) I had also a funtion to optomize hdmi performance with 'monitor' or 'tv' what is likely to be more like a crt. I think 'monitor' the colour depth seems to be more with that option selected

What source are you using? Go into the players menu and turn off 24fps.

my player calls it 'movie frame mode' and that whas off, and even then the picture went wonky. Think i'm going to stick to 720p

There is no "Resolution" Selection option in your BD Player setup? Like 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p24, 1080p60? My 1st gen Pioneer BDP-HD1 has that functionality right on the front panel controls, I would expect a newer unit to have similar abilities... If not, then glad I'm still rockin' the antique from 2006!

No CRT projector can show 24 fps (Hz). Done on purpose as the flicker would drive you nuts. Years ago some people used to do 48Hz on CRT and even that flicker drove me nuts.
Your Barco 801 can't resolve 1080p. It can barely do 720p cleanly. I would stick with 1080i which is half the bandwidth of 1080p but still the same resolution. It's the best compromise (IMHO) for most 8" CRT projectors even EM focussing ones. Your ES focussing unit will be softer so 1080i is really the best solution.
1080i is lower bandwidth than 720p but still full 1920x1080 resolution so it's easier to resolve for the projector and you won't be throwing away any pixels.

i only can choose between 480/576, 1080i, 720p, 1080p that's it but this samsung bd player only cost me 20$ on a dutch e-bay so i don't expect much.
i will try the 1080i when i get fed up with the 720p option, because it's all setup nicely, and in the past on my "7" pj i got some stupid white line noise on dvd when playing it on my bd player on 1080i for some reason, i think 720p is the sweatspot for my bd player.

ok did some "real" surfing on the interweb about 720p vs 1080i and every time a crt subject came up they were talking
about 1080i is the best for crt guns. So i think i will try it tonight ( there we go again! )

Not sure if it's true of Barco, but on Sony projectors, there was both a "save" and a "save to all" type of command. That way, that whatever convergence adjustments you'd done at 720p, could also be saved to the slot for 1080i. That way, when you switched to 1080i, you weren't starting from scratch on every single bit of geometry.

Yup - Barco has block copies as well that get often get you 90% of the way there. (That said, I've rarely ever used them as I usually like to start 'clean'). I only ever used 720p/60 and 1080i/60 on my Barco 8" projector. I suppose 1080p/60 was set up as well just to see how well (in this case poorly) it resolved. It's a one time setup thing.
