I tried this silicon kit
http://www.bison.nl/nl-nl/producten/660-siliconenkitten/product/621-siliconenkit-bouw/

But after a week it is still soft.

Is it just a bad tube or is it the wrong type? It says it stays elastic but I chose it for not being acid.

I found the type that is closest to what is in Marquee tubes to fill around the tube is a concrete grey silicon. If you noticed when taking out
a tube from a Marquee housing it is a little gritty and not rubbery.

the acetic acid, a highly concentrated from of vinegar, combined with moisture in the air, is what makes Silicone Cure. So yeah without it , it will stay soft for a very long time.

It is possible the tube is bad. I got my money back and another tube. Now I first try to see if this one dries. It has the same expiration date as the other so if the whole batch is bad I am still f*ck*** Very Happy Put some kit on a paper to test this time.

About the accid someone told me the accid and glycol do not go together? He also had the same kit and it dried in his case.

VDC uses Shin-Etsu potting silicone. GE also makes some that is suitable for the job.

It NEEDS the acetic acid to cure properly. Don't worry, the acid reacts completely and the resulting cured silicone is not acidic.

I have successfully used GE silicone (black) to pot CRTs into their housings.

You're thinking too hard about this. Just use good quality regular silicone (GE is fine) and forget about it.

A little acetic acid isn't going to hurt anything in the tube assembly, EVER.

I actually have a quart of the same stuff VDC uses but it's probably about four years past its expiration date even though it's been kept in the refrigerator since the day I got it. I have not had to pot any tubes since before then.

The crumbly character of the stuff VDC uses is typical of potting silicones. It just makes it a bit easier to yank a tube out if you should have the need to do so. But at this stage, I predict that once you pot a new CRT, it'll be for the last time.

I used standard engine seal silicone (heavy acid smell) for my marquee and barco tubes and filled them with pure monoethyleneglycol
after sitting on the living room radiator for 3 days. everything well for about 3 months now.

I put some silicone from my new tube on paper and it has hardened in 12 hours so my earlier tube was a wrong one. Can happen because it has been to cold I understood. So to everyone. Check your silicone before usage as Curt says in the advanged procedures
