Getting ready to install electronics to different tube, i mangled this piece of white tape that was on the tubes neck. What is this tape? Can i survive without it?
Also, i'm not absolutely sure this is a green tube, the label is Panasonic pt22-?2. 44 27 mbe. Green?

Put the tube close to a neon light that will excite the phosphor somewhat, and you can decide the color from its afterglow.

It seems to be a blue tube.
You will be fine without that tape too. Some installers put it there to ensure that the deflection yoke, focus yoke and stigmators rings will stay firmly in their position after proper setup. It just take care that there is a bit friction between the plastic parts and glass.

all three tubes are being replaced and are out of the projector, is there any harm in plugging in only one tube and turning on projector for a few seconds to check color?

Your Marquee will not fire up unless all scan yokes are plugged into the HDM and VDM

PT22-19 is a fast green (P43 phosphor) tube.
Very sure about that.
Blues and greens are P19LCP09-RJA (red) and P19LCP09BMB (blue). There are also PT22-30, same as PT22-19 but with LUG-type pinout.
There are others, but these are besides some exotics the vast majority of tubes found in Marquees.
There are Thomson tubes (look totally different), LUGs (other stickers) and some others that are not original in Marquees.
Standard green tubes are P19LCP09-HKA (P22 medium decay phosphor).
How does this PT22-19 look like? Can you take a photography of the phosphor?

this projector has been in pieces for a long time (years), I've finally gotten some time to try to get it back together. I have three tubes in place and I think I'm ready to power up so I can check this tube color on the unknown. What are some things I need to verify before I power up so as to not blow this thing up? I've got the g2 wire on the correct pin.... any other fatal mistakes I could have made? Is there a safe first time power up procedure? thanks, dc

Let me tell you, it's a green.
What did you do since the last picture? Tape on the tube neck? All yokes and CPC magnets mounted?
Glycol filled in there? Bellows ok? Aquadag grounding wires there?
What tube are the red and blue tubes in your projector? LCP?
G2 wire mounts the same as with LCP tubes. http://www.curtpalme.com/ElectrohomeMarquee_Layout7.shtm
That's how i do it with the tape:
  
Check every cable twice. Especially on the FGM, HDM, astig, vertical and convergence board, make sure the neckboards multipin connectors are not mis-pinned.
If the HV- splitter is not fastened on the green tube, use a isolating piece (at least 1 inch thick) between splitter and case.
Use that tape between the tube and yoke clamps! It prevents the tube from breaking. Do not overtighten the clamp screws.
Just enough that you cannot move the yokes by hand.

the red and blue are lcp, they are complete with new bellows and filled. the green (i hope) does not have bellows and glycol yet, I did not use the tape- I could easily pull the electronics back off and use tape, none of the clamps are tight yet, aquadag grounding wires are there.

Ok, i did not try it without the tape myself and i never will.
I think this is important, because it protects the tube from breaking.
You don't have to use surgery tape, every type of soft tape should work.

The tubes are installed. The first time I turned it on, I heard fans and saw glow from the end of the tubes but apparently no hv, no light output but there were no error lights.
I turned it off, rechecked all connections, turned back on and now I get V Fail light. I verified +/-5vdc and +/-15vdc are on the vertical board and ohmed the connectors to that board. where do I go from here?
I have an 8500 as a spare parts machine)

Found the problem, the connector from the green tube to the vert. board was bad, spliced in a new one and it's alive!

I was going to say, if you are actually replacing the tubes themselves in their housings, be careful not to install any of them in the upside down position! I ALMOST did that once. It would have been bad.
Glad you got it working! Now for the real fun: A complete setup and alignment.
