hello all.

i decided to at least fire up my barco cine 9 after sitting on it for some time. it appears to be running fine after a few years storage.

i watched a video on youtube about setting up the raster first. are the factory barco cine 9 tubes okay to run the raster to the edge? without fear of blowing a tube?

i cant seem to find the menu option to rotate the projected image. the current setup for the machine is front/ceiling. i read the installation manual i have with the set and it suggests changing the h/v scan connector jumper wires. i did so for a front/table configuration and re-fired up the set to see it is still in the front/ceiling configuration. what am i missing? do i need to walk through the installation menu in the service section now? kind of hard to read upside down!

also just looking at the image now while typing this i can see the image isnt stable. it moves around a noticeable amount. i have never setup a crt projector before.

thanks for your time.

best regards,

justin

Hello,
Look on page 20 and 21 on the manual.

http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/BarcoCine9_Install.pdf

And remember to switch the projector off and pull the mains connector out of the wall before doing this.

I've never had a 909 but i think the manual is clear enough on that procedure.
Regards, Julian

Hello Justin,

The scan adaptation is not done trough the menu, only by switching those six connectors ( J151, J251, J351, J152, J252 and J352 ). Could be that you missed something. For front-table configuration, when you are standing in front of the projector so faceing the lensen, the horizontal scan plugs (red+blue wires) shoud be with red upwards and the vertical scan plugs (green+yellow wires) with the green on the left side.
Don't forget to do that after you switched off the projector and plugged out the mains.
Yes, each time a scan adaptation is done, a from schratch installation is needed after removing all memory blocks in the service menu. It is even recomanded to have the raster width almost touching the tubes edges, for maximum phosphorus usage. It's the active image width within the raster that should not overshoot the tubes edges.
About the image instability you see, could be more reasons. Your projector was for a long time in storrage. A loose connection, a dry capacitor or improper raster position could also be the culprit.

Hello Julian,

Just saw your post after my reply to Justin.
No switches involved on 909 chassis.

Hey Hulio, i thought it might be the same thing as it is at the 1209s. Post edited.
How i understand it reading the manual: Scan is changed via the connectors and SHOWN in the menu.
The menu will read out the current setting but can't change scan.

Hi Justin,
Where in Australia are you, There are a few of us around the country still playing with CRT projectors. Most of us have at least one Barco. Maybe someone close enough to help you out.
I am in Canberra.

thank you all for such great replies.

I have the manual linked here. my understanding of changing these j wires is to move the grey wires over. but upon closer look at the coloured manual (mines black and white) I noticed this may be my issue.

I am at work now but will check the projector identification from the service menu in the morning. I think I have these grey wires in the wrong spots? the manual doesnt exactly show which pin the wires go to (theres four pins on both h and v.)

I dont know much about these projectors. do I delete the memory blocks? for a new setup? I presume all calibration and settings are stored in these? I hope once I delete them, after going through the installation menu the image gets flipped over.

I am located in melbourne Greg. I am aware of a few people in melbourne with these sets. my setup is purely temporary (for six months.) I will be interested in having someone over to callibrate it in its final spot.

many thanks again.

regards,

justin.

haha yes its been sitting for way too long. because i rent i cant mount it to the roof, not to mention all our spare rooms are too small to get a good throw for a decent screen size! where it sits now on a table its only 80"~ wide because of the throw. i did read a few posts of people using rear projection mirrors and a vertical mount for the projector. however, the cine 9 isnt a small projector and it would need to be a decent mount...

i just fired it back up and went into the projector identification menu and it is setup for front/table. however the picture is still upside down. i am going to go ahead and delete the memory blocks, is that correct? and start a new installation setup.

Its upside down because you need to turn 3 plugs around.

Dont run the image right to the edges of the tube faces, the raster can go past the edge, but not the image.

Hi Justin

First of since the projector is in storage for few years, i would highly recommend to use variable transformer to bring up the internal components to its full capacity without blowing any parts inside. Why??? Cause thats what happened to 3 of my set. Aussie voltage would rate between 220V to 240V all year around but during summer time, it will peak up to just under 260v especially if you live close by industrial area like i do. Check the bridge rectifier on the PFC. Scary isn't it.

There isn't much crt user around Aust. If you need help, i'd gladly put my hand up since we're in melbourne. I'm located in Deer Park by the way. Pm you my contact no. Off to work now.... Adios amigo...

Are you an electrician Anthony? If you ever see voltages exceed 253v anywhere in Australia, id be contacting the supply authority in your local area straight away mate, as they are bound by the AS/NZ 3000/2007 the supply nominal voltage of 230/400 within a tollerance of +10%/-6%.

260v is way out of spec! There were a few places here in QLD that had issues like that during the day where there were high levels of grid tied solar installed due to the grid being fitted with too small and too few 11kV-230/400v transformers.
