Hi there,

At first, let me introduce myself: I'm Eyle, a 24 year old student in The Netherlands. About three years ago I bought a Barco Data 808s with low hours and a lot of spare parts for fun and for the sake of building a home theater without my parents liking it. The projector has since performed very well, until a while ago: all of a sudden we did not get any image, but the projector did power up. After troubleshooting with help of this forum and Curt's website I figured the HV splitter was broken. Luckily I had a replacement and I put it in. After that, the projector started for one time, and displayed an image as well. Because I wanted to see the projector working again I turned it off after this and put everything back together neatly, screwed the lid on and everything.

After screwing everything together again no image. So again, lid off: no red lights on EHT, the red led on the G2/diagnostic board was off but there were two green lights off as well: the single LED on the right side and the only LED after the red LED. (see attached image, the yellow circled LED's are off)

After pulling out the SMPS I discovered that resistor R134 was blown on two SMPS, so I thought I had the same problem as described in this thread: https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=35351.html
In the mean time I tried to bring the projector up with a spare SMPS, EHT and G2/Diagnostic board as well as a spare quad. No luck.

With some luck i bought a second (functioning) second 808s for a few bucks, and swapped the SMPS from the working projector to the broken projector, only to conclude that the functioning SMPS now has R134 blown and is now broken as well.

Today, after receiving and putting in replacement resistors for R134 and powering up the set, the resistors are directly blown again. I've tried switching multiple boards, but only when I pull the G2/Diagnostic board the resistor won't blow. Replacing this G2/Diagnostic board does not help as well, in both projectors the tubes do not power up.

I've tested all the fuses on all the boards I have and all are good.

I already had some email contact with Curt, but because he is very busy with his business and a lot of things and I don't want to be a person that demands him to fix my projector from a few thousand miles away while he has a business to run I figured i'd ask you guys, because you have helped a lot of people with their projectors.

I would love to see these projectors working again and blow my parents' electricity bill through the roof. Any help is appreciated.

Greetings from The Netherlands,

Eyle

I don't remember well, however there was an issue in G2 diagnostic board that burned the SMPS resistor every time I tried to replace each unit.
So I suggest (BEFORE) to try replace G2 board with a spare surely working unit.
Then (AFTER) swap with working SMPS (or fix bad SMPS with good resistor).

Hi decibel,

Thanks for your reply. I have already tried powering up the projector a spare g2 I had laying around and with the g2 from the other projector but the resistor keeps burning.

Greetings from the Netherlands!

I"ll need to pull the service manual once I'm back at home. All I can suggest right now is pull the EHT board and the G2 board to see if the set will power up without smoking that resistor.

I"ll walk you through this, I just don't have my manuals with me while in California.
