http://kottke.org/15/07/the-top-10-most-beautiful-movies-of-all-time

Great list showcasing the most visually stunning films, which I assume also means a must-see list for any CRT owner. List presented in video format, with dozens of additional film titles suggested. Curt, some ideas for your Blu-ray library...

Any of these a must-see? Anything missing?

I agree with Hero (and/or House of Flying Daggers), and Samsara is an eye-popping film.

I just bought Samsara, but I've not watched it yet (arrived today). Russian Ark--wow, that that was a piece of work, but I don't have it yet. Got 2001, The Fall, Hero, etc., love them. Tree of Life ... WOW the space scenes. PK, now I have to go watch Samsara since it made #1.

As soon as I saw the title of this thread I thought of The Fall. I'm glad it's on their list Smile

I'm surprised that Avatar did not make this list... even though almost entirely CG, the scenes on the planet Pandora which make up 80 % or more of the movie - in particular the scenes deep in the jungle with Jake and Neytiri exploring around together were absolutely stunning.

Maybe this list was only for flicks with real life outdoor cinematography ? I dunno...
Confused

Some of those beautiful films could be a bit more entertaining to watch.

I liked Life of Pi in both aspects

My father read the book life of Pi (Schiffbruch mit Tiger) and was fascinated. I did so, too.
But the movie is in fact one of the rare movies that come close to the book.
At that time I had the 801s (fully color corrected and LC'ed) set up, gave him the remote and told him how to start
the movie on my PC. He was impressed. But I couldn't get him to allow me to install the 9PG in his living room.
The did not trust the ceiling enough to hold the projector.

Hero is recommendable, too. I will keep this list in mind and watch the rest of those movies.
Cloud Atlas, Gravity, Aeon Flux, Jupiter ascending and The Fountain are on my personal list, too.
Someone mentioned Avatar (especially the opening scene with the space ship) and Inception?

Regards, Julian
